🚨🌀🌪️Hurricane Milton Alert🌪️🌀🚨
📸 📸📸Pictures, pictures, pictures! While it is human nature to immediately start cleaning up after a major storm, it is extremely important to take pictures of everything- before, during and after the cleanup. During a major hurricane it can sometimes take insurance companies several weeks to inspect your damaged property. As a result, It is very important to document all of these damages immediately after the storm as conditions can change overtime, potentially affecting the investigation and outcome of your insurance claim.
🧐🌬️Overall conditions- pictures such as downed trees or power lines, building materials or your neighbors screen enclosure laying in your front yard show the significance of the winds in your area. While high winds may have been obvious to you, it may not be so obvious to someone behind a desk in another state.
🌲💥 Tree impact- Depending on the size, force and several other factors, a tree impact can cause a significant amount of damage to your property. As the tree impacts the property, it can cause everything to shift and create a major structural concern. If a tree hits your property, it’s is very important to take as many pictures as you are able to of the tree, its size and the damaged it caused before it is removed and while it is being removed.
🌊 🌊Flooding- This is not the same as your home owners insurance and is a seperate policy. When dealing with flooding it is extremely important to photograph the flood line. Typically on the exterior of the home you will see a constant line of debris build up around the perimeter indicating how high the water went.
🛋️ 🛌 📺Contents- This is considered anything inside the home, if you could pick the house up and turn it over, this would be anything that would fall out. Do not just throw away things that were damaged!! These will need to be photographed and listed on an inventory sheet for insurance to provide coverage. It is important to remember if you live in a flood zone and your home is elevated- If you leave your personal belongings on the base “break-away” level, your typical flood insurance will not cover these belongings. In the event these personal belongings are relocated to the first finished level prior to the storm and then they are damaged by flooding, your typical flood insurance will then cover these belongings. This only pertains to homes that are required to be elevated to a minimum base flood elevation
‼️At the end of the day it is extremely important to hire an insurance professional immediately after a storm to ensure the best possible outcome of your insurance claim. However that is not always possible, so I wanted to provide a few bullet points to help out anyone in need.
