Attention Wood County Residents:

Please stay weather‑aware tonight. Forecasters are calling for the potential of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes during the overnight hours, when many people may be asleep. Because of this, we strongly encourage all residents to have multiple, reliable ways to receive emergency alerts.

Current information from the National Weather Service indicates the possibility of severe weather. While this does not guarantee storms will occur, the threat is meaningful enough that everyone should stay alert and prepared.

Before going to bed tonight, please:
• Turn your phone ringer on and up 📱
• Charge all devices and keep them nearby 🔌
• Keep essential items within reach (shoes, flashlight, medications, clothing, toiletries, snacks) 🔦

⚠️Important Notification Update⚠️
Wood County no longer uses CodeRED for mass notifications. If you previously relied on CodeRED, make sure you have other ways to receive alerts, such as:
• Local news and weather apps
• FEMA’s mobile app
• NOAA weather radio
• Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) enabled on your cell phone

Wood County is currently transitioning to Everbridge as our new mass‑notification system. While EMA can manually push an emergency notification to some residents, the full system is not yet active and should not be considered your primary method of receiving warnings. It remains essential to have multiple alerting options in place.

Once Everbridge’s automated weather‑alert opt‑in system is ready, Wood County EMA will share a registration link so residents can set their preferences.

Please stay connected to our social media pages and local media for updates as conditions develop.

Keep an eye on the weather tonight!

Let's Talk: SEVERE Storms Likely Tonight

It's going to be a stormy one late tonight and early Wednesday morning. Locally, I think the highest severe weather threat will be 10pm-6am. Not the best for a good night sleep.

There are A LOT of moving parts that could shift this but here is what I expect to happen tonight:

1) Storms will develop to our west near Chicago near sunset. This is where they will be strongest and have highest tornado potential.

2) These storms will likely form into lines as they approach our area. This will decrease the stronger tornado threat but not eliminate it. Equally it will increase chances for straight line gusty winds.

3) Across Michigan hail will be more likely due to it's proximity to colder air to the north.

4) The first wave of storms will be the highest threat for severe weather. There will be more rain and thunderstorms around sunrise. These are less likely to be severe.

5) IF and this is a BIG IF overnight storms don't push through as expected, the severe weather threat for early Wednesday PM severe t-storms will increase.

Please ask questions if you have them and be sure to share to give family/friends a heads up!
