Attention Wood County Residents:
Please stay weather‑aware tonight. Forecasters are calling for the potential of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes during the overnight hours, when many people may be asleep. Because of this, we strongly encourage all residents to have multiple, reliable ways to receive emergency alerts.
Current information from the National Weather Service indicates the possibility of severe weather. While this does not guarantee storms will occur, the threat is meaningful enough that everyone should stay alert and prepared.
Before going to bed tonight, please:
• Turn your phone ringer on and up 📱
• Charge all devices and keep them nearby 🔌
• Keep essential items within reach (shoes, flashlight, medications, clothing, toiletries, snacks) 🔦
⚠️Important Notification Update⚠️
Wood County no longer uses CodeRED for mass notifications. If you previously relied on CodeRED, make sure you have other ways to receive alerts, such as:
• Local news and weather apps
• FEMA’s mobile app
• NOAA weather radio
• Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) enabled on your cell phone
Wood County is currently transitioning to Everbridge as our new mass‑notification system. While EMA can manually push an emergency notification to some residents, the full system is not yet active and should not be considered your primary method of receiving warnings. It remains essential to have multiple alerting options in place.
Once Everbridge’s automated weather‑alert opt‑in system is ready, Wood County EMA will share a registration link so residents can set their preferences.
Please stay connected to our social media pages and local media for updates as conditions develop.
