Which type of life insurance is right for you? There are two very different paths.

Term life covers you for a set number of years. It can make sense when you’re protecting income, a mortgage, or children who still depend on you.

Permanent life is built to last for your lifetime, as long as you meet the policy requirements. It may fit longer-term needs.

Neither is automatically better. The question is: What do you need your coverage to protect—and for how long?

In a 2025 study, 61% of people without life insurance said they need it, and 19% of people with coverage said they need more. Source: LIMRA and Life Happens

If your drone crashes and damages someone else’s property, your homeowners insurance usually covers it.

This falls under liability, and it can pay for the broken window, repairs, and even medical bills if someone gets hurt.

Most homeowners policies come with at least $100,000 in liability coverage.

That sounds like plenty, until you remember it also has to cover any legal fees if you get sued. It can run out fast.

Here’s the part that surprises people:

Homeowners insurance covers the accident. It does not automatically cover your own drone.

If it’s damaged in the crash, that’s treated as personal property, and only certain causes are covered.

A crash from your own mistake often isn’t one of them. If you have an expensive drone, you may need a separate policy just for the drone itself.

And you’re most likely you’re flying outside, so you’ll want to read this:

Drones flown outdoors have to be registered with the FAA before you fly.

It’s a small step, but skipping it can complicate a claim if something goes wrong.

Before your next flight, know what your policy actually covers. ProStar can walk you through it.

A golf tournament can be a day on the course.

Or it can do more.

Last year, the ProStar Invitational gave $16,084 to local nonprofits. That was more than $6,000 above the year before.

This year, these businesses are helping us raise the bar again:

➡️Pure Dry — Nathan Kelly

➡️Fun Golf Vacations — Eric Hoskinson

➡️Greater Puget Sound Solutions — Eric Sandstrom

➡️Progressive Insurance — Ross Sturenfeldt

➡️Altitude Financial — Adam Trouy

➡️Nationwide Insurance

➡️Polaris Injury Law — Chris Cazares

➡️Phil’s Landscaping — Phil Isacson

➡️Capstone Accounting

➡️Pella Windows — Keith Dashofy

➡️KOSS Construction

➡️Anderson Roofing — Jason Kono

➡️Liberty Mutual — Amy Cummings

➡️Stone Insulation

➡️Fairway Mortgage — Pierce Rankin

Thank you for being part of a day that supports local nonprofits and brings people together.

The 3rd Annual ProStar Invitational is Monday, October 12, at Mill Creek Country Club. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. Shotgun start is at 11:00 a.m.

This works because it gives sponsors a meaningful role. It’s not just a list of names.

If your son or daughter has a parking lot fender bender, who pays?

Washington is an at-fault state.

Whoever caused the crash is on the hook for the damage.

This applies in a school parking lot the same as it does on the highway.

Washington law requires drivers to carry at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for injuries, plus $10,000 for property damage.

That sounds like a lot until you’re the one paying it.

A moderate fender bender can run over $15,000 in repairs alone.

If your teen causes a crash that costs more than the minimum covers, you might have to pay for the rest.

What happens when two cars collide in a lot-

If your teen is at fault, their liability coverage pays for the other car’s damage. It does not pay to fix your teen’s car.

That’s what collision coverage is for, and it’s optional in Washington, not required.

If the other driver is at fault, their insurance is supposed to cover your damage.

But parking lots rarely have police reports or witnesses, so fault can be harder to prove than it looks.

And a big issue can be what happens if your teen causes a crash that goes past your policy’s limit.

That gap becomes your responsibility, not the insurance company’s.

Before the school year gets going, know your teen’s coverage and what happens if they’re in a fender bender at school.

ProStar can walk you through it.

Covered or not?

At the University of Washington, bike theft is the number one property crime on campus.

And it’s getting worse.

UWPD data shows e-bike thefts jumped 360% and e-scooter thefts jumped 225% between 2024 and 2025.

One in four UW students has a bike on campus. The odds this happens to your student are real.

Here’s what most families don’t know about coverage…

If your student lives in a dorm:

Your homeowners policy usually follows them.

But only 10% of your personal property coverage applies to things kept outside your home, like a dorm room.

And it only covers theft if they’ve been living there for the last 90 days.

So if the bike gets stolen in the first few weeks of school, it may not be covered at all.

If your student lives off campus:

Your homeowners policy typically doesn’t cover them anymore. That includes the bike, the laptop, all of it.

This is where a bike is often protected under a renters policy instead, along with things like laptops and furniture, if the loss is caused by something the policy covers, like theft.

Every policy is different. Some limits are so low a stolen bike barely gets covered. The only way to know for sure is to check.

Before move-in day, call ProStar. We’ll walk through what’s covered and what your student still needs.

Know the law before you hand over the keys.

In Washington, you have to be at least 14 to drive a jet ski. And if you were born on or after January 1, 1955, you also need a Boater Education Card. This is a one-time class. Once you pass it, the card never expires. If your friend doesn’t have this card, and something goes wrong, it can hurt you, not just them.

Your homeowners policy won’t cover this.

Jet skis almost always need their own policy. Homeowners insurance might cover something small, like a kayak sitting in your garage. But jet skis are usually left out completely.

If it covers anything, it’s not much.

Sometimes a policy will mention a jet ski. But the coverage is small. And it only covers damage to the machine. Not injuries. Not lawsuits.

Liability is the big gap.

This is the part that matters most. Liability coverage is not automatic. You can sometimes add it to a homeowners policy, but this is rare for jet skis. So if a friend gets hurt while riding, most people don’t find out their homeowners policy won’t help until it’s too late.

You need your own watercraft policy.

You can sometimes get this through your homeowners insurance company. Or you can go with a company that only does boats and watercraft. That’s often the better choice, since it’s made for this exact problem.

Where does it fit?

It’s not under your auto policy. It’s not under your homeowners policy. And it’s not automatically under an umbrella policy either, unless the umbrella specifically lists your jet ski as something it covers. A jet ski really does need its own coverage, on its own.

Don’t wait until something happens to find out what’s covered.

Call ProStar today. We’ll look at your policy and make sure your jet ski is actually protected.

Thinking about buying an e-bike?

Before you take it for your first ride, call your insurance agent.

Many people assume their homeowners or renters insurance automatically covers an e-bike, but that’s not always the case. Coverage can vary depending on the bike’s value, how it’s stored, and whether your policy considers it a motorized vehicle.

Before you hit the road:

* Confirm your policy covers e-bike theft and damage.
* Ask whether your liability coverage protects you if you accidentally injure someone while riding.
* Find out if the battery and accessories are covered—they’re often the most expensive parts.
* Invest in a quality lock and secure storage to help prevent theft.

A quick conversation today could save you from an expensive surprise tomorrow.

Thinking about buying an e-bike? ProStar Insurance can help you understand your coverage before your first ride.
