A few weeks ago, our client About Fresh — alongside Process First LLC, and Pip & Anchor brought Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian from the Tufts Food is Medicine Institute and Dr. Joseph Betancourt President of The Commonwealth Fund to The The Nantucket Dreamland Theatre for an evening on Food is Medicine: the growing movement to treat nutritious food as healthcare, not an afterthought.

Every ticket to the event gave back, funding Pip & Anchor's Send It Box program delivering local produce to food-insecure households across the island.

This is the kind of organization we're proud to stand behind at Surfside Capital Advisors: mission-driven, community-rooted, and building real infrastructure around the belief that people's health starts with how well they're fed. Impact isn't a line item for About Fresh — it's the whole point.

Caught up with Shannon West, founder of East West Wines, this week — and left the conversation thinking about wine very differently.

Shannon has built a business around a story most Americans have never heard: the centuries-old winemaking traditions of Southeastern Europe. She partners directly with family-owned vineyards crafting natural, low-intervention wines from native grape varietals, and brings those bottles — and the stories behind them — to the U.S. market from her home base in Cambridge.

It's a reminder of why I started Surfside Capital Advisors. The businesses I'm drawn to aren't chasing growth for its own sake — they're built around something worth preserving: a craft, a culture, a relationship with the people who make the product. My job is to help founders like Shannon make smart, disciplined decisions about capital, operations, and strategy without losing sight of what made the business special in the first place.

Small importers like East West Wines also do something bigger than move product — they create a bridge between communities, supporting family winemakers abroad while building something new here at home.
