💵 What happens when the paycheck stops—but the bills don’t?

For decades, retirement planning is largely about saving and investing.

Then retirement arrives, and the question changes:

How do you turn those savings into income you can actually spend?

Your retirement paycheck may eventually come from several places:

✅ Social Security
✅ Pension income
✅ Portfolio withdrawals
✅ Cash reserves
✅ Other income

The challenge is figuring out how those pieces work together—and what happens when markets fall, expenses change, or taxes enter the picture.

Our newest article looks at several ways retirees may approach retirement income, including total-return investing, bucket strategies, systematic withdrawals, annuities, and hybrid approaches.

🔮 Do you know what tax rates will be 10, 20, or 30 years from now?

Neither do we.

And that’s one of the challenges of retirement tax planning.

You’re making decisions today about money you may not withdraw for decades.

Traditional IRA?
Roth?
Taxable investments?
Roth conversion now—or later?

Rather than trying to perfectly predict future tax rates, another approach is to think about tax flexibility.

Having retirement assets with different tax characteristics may give you more choices about where your income comes from later.

Our latest article looks at Roth conversions, RMDs, QCDs, surviving-spouse considerations, inherited IRAs and more.

The future is uncertain. Your plan can still prepare for it.

Retirement tax planning doesn't require predicting future tax rates. Learn how Roth conversions, RMDs and different tax buckets may create flexibility.

📉 What happens if the market drops right after you retire?

That's where something called sequence of returns risk can become important.

Imagine two retirees:

💰 Both start with $1 million.
💵 Both withdraw $50,000 each year.
📊 Both experience the exact same investment returns.

But one gets the bad years first.

The other gets them later.

In our hypothetical six-year example:

Retiree A: ≈ $741,000 remaining
Retiree B: ≈ $894,000 remaining

Same starting balance.
Same withdrawals.
Same returns.

Different order. Different outcome.

Why? Once you're withdrawing from a portfolio, when market declines occur can matter.

Our latest blog explains sequence of returns risk—and what retirees may want to consider before a downturn happens.

🚨 Think you're being scammed? Stop before you send money.

Today's scams can be remarkably convincing—and being smart with money doesn't necessarily make someone immune.

If something doesn't feel right:

🛑 STOP — Don't send more money.
📞 CALL — Talk to someone you trust.
🔍 VERIFY — Contact the person or organization independently.
🏦 CONTACT — If money already moved, contact the financial institution involved.
📋 DOCUMENT — Save texts, emails and transaction information.
🔐 PROTECT — Secure potentially compromised accounts.

And here's something that's especially important:

If you've already lost money, be extremely cautious of anyone promising to recover it for a fee.

You could be dealing with another scam.

We've put together a guide explaining what to consider before—and after—financial fraud.

You're 55. Have you saved enough for retirement? 🤔

It's a question that can become a lot more urgent as retirement gets closer.

But comparing your account balance to a national average may not tell you whether you're actually prepared.

Your retirement picture can depend on:

💰 What you've saved
🏦 Social Security and pension income
🏠 Debt
🩺 Healthcare costs
📊 Your investments
💵 Expected retirement spending
📅 When you plan to retire

Two people can have exactly the same amount saved and be in completely different financial situations.

So instead of only asking:

“How much should I have saved?”

Consider asking:

“What does my money need to accomplish?”

We break down what to review during your final working years in our latest blog.

💰 Does getting married make you wealthier?

The numbers might make you think so.

Federal Reserve data cited by Investopedia shows median net worth of approximately:

💍 $316,000 — partnered households
👤 $74,000 — single households

That's a BIG difference.

But relationship status isn't the whole explanation.

Age, income, shared household expenses, homeownership, children, saving habits and other factors can all influence net worth.

And being single doesn't mean you're destined to fall behind financially.

The more useful question may be:

Is your financial plan designed for the household you actually have?

We took a closer look at what the numbers show—and what singles, couples and parents may want to consider.
