Mortgage Brokers have outpaced IMBs and Banks/CUs in 2026 net headcount and production movement. What does that mean?

I don’t believe that any channel is universally better than another. Brokers still have less than 30% overall market share, so clearly the other channels are doing something right. However, the data continues to show that more and more LOs are moving to the broker channel.

As technology continues to streamline operations and wholesale lenders compete for business, the broker channel continues to gain a competitive edge. I think that the large national brokerages with scale have most to gain in the coming years. And when those advantages reach the individual LO, they can mean more time serving clients, more competitive options, and more opportunity to grow.
