This week for our Men's Health series we’re taking a closer look at mental and emotional health and the importance of asking for support when you need it.

Many men are taught to “push through” stress or difficult emotions. But mental well-being is just as important as physical health, and taking care of it matters, too. Talking about what you're experiencing is a sign of strength, not weakness.

If you’ve been feeling stressed, tired, withdrawn, or simply “not like yourself,” please don’t ignore those feelings. A conversation with your doctor can be a helpful first step toward feeling better.

You are not alone, and support is available.

High blood pressure is one of the most common health concerns among adults — and one of the most manageable. But because it often has no noticeable symptoms, many people don't know their numbers are elevated until they have a checkup.

That's why staying proactive matters. Regular blood pressure checks, along with healthy habits like staying active, eating well, and managing stress, can help support your heart health over time.

If you're managing high blood pressure, now's a good time to check in with your doctor and stay on track with your care.

As part of our Men’s Health Month series, we’re taking a closer look at heart health and the small everyday habits that can help support it over time.

Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns for men, and on average, men develop it about 10 years earlier than women. But regular checkups, staying active, managing stress, and making heart-healthy food choices can all make a meaningful difference.

Knowing your blood pressure, cholesterol, and other risk factors can help you stay proactive about your health and catch potential concerns earlier.

Talk with your doctor about your heart health and ask what preventive steps may be right for you. ❤️

Before scheduling your next doctor's appointment, take a moment to check whether your provider is in your Saint Alphonsus Health Plan's network. Doing so could help you save money and avoid unexpected costs.

Doctors, specialists, and facilities in Saint Alphonsus Health Plan’s network offer services to plan members at agreed-upon rates, which can help keep your costs lower.

If you see a provider outside your plan's network and have an HMO plan, you may have to pay more out of pocket. HMO plans generally don’t cover out-of-network care except in emergencies and certain situations. If you have a PPO plan, out-of-network care may be covered, but your costs will likely be higher.

If you need help finding a doctor or specialist in your plan’s network, we're here to help.

June is Men’s Health Month. All month long, we’ll be sharing tips and information focused on men’s health — from heart health and staying active to mental well-being and more.

First up — scheduling your annual checkup is one of the best things men can do for their health. It can help identify potential health concerns early, often before symptoms appear, and help you stay active and feel your best.

Now's a great time to schedule your annual checkup, if you haven't already, and talk with your doctor about the preventive care and screenings that may be right for you. Annual wellness visits are covered at $0 for members, so all it will cost is your time. And we'd argue it's well worth the investment in yourself!

Summer brings sunshine and warmer weather — but for many people, it also brings seasonal allergies. Sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, and a runny nose can make it harder to enjoy this time of year.

The good news is that seasonal allergies are manageable. Checking pollen counts and limiting time outside when levels are high can help reduce symptoms. Showering after spending time outside to remove pollen from your skin and hair can help, too. Your doctor can also help you explore treatment options to find relief.

Do seasonal allergies affect you? Let us know in the comments.

Good hearing supports more than just conversation — it helps you stay connected, confident, and independent in everyday life.

About one in three adults over 65 will experience some degree of age-related hearing loss, and it often develops gradually. If you've noticed yourself asking people to repeat themselves or turning the TV up more than usual, it may be a good time to talk with your doctor about your hearing.

Your health plan includes hearing benefits through TruHearing, including $0 in-network routine hearing exams and hearing aid options designed to fit a range of budgets, so you can get the support you need to stay connected to the people and moments that matter.
