John Parete for Legislator

John Parete for Legislator Elected to the Ulster County Legislature in November 2019 to represent the good people of the Towns of Denning, Hardenburgh, Olive & Shandaken.

Legislator John Parete is a proud business owner and community servant. He is a co-owner, with his wife Barbara, of the Boiceville Inn located on Route 28. For over forty years, this family owned and operated restaurant has been the meeting place and the celebration location for generations of families. Whether over a beer or a burger, Legislator Parete has listened to and been responsive to conce

rns of the community. His ear for issues, albeit a little worn but still strong, has led his visions for improving Ulster County. He presented his vision for the Ulster County Legislature of “building consensus and not partisanship”.

“I think we should try not to make issues out of little things. Important issues require thoughtfulness and compromise. We must try to remember that people with different political views are friends, neighbors and colleagues. We share interests and goals that keep our differences in perspective. We must look forward. Our function is to look ahead as best we can while reflecting on the past.”

Legislator Parete's vast knowledge has developed over decades of community service. He previously served as the Ulster County Auditor, Director of Purchasing and Insurance, an Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency Board of Directors Member, Chairman of the Legislature, the Ulster County Democratic Chairman and the Democratic Commissioner for the Ulster County Board of Elections. He joined his sons, Robert and Richard, as a Legislator when the Legislature moved to single member districts and serves his constituents of Denning, Hardenburgh, Olive and Shandaken. As an appointee of Governor Andrew Cuomo, Chairman Parete sits on the Olympic Regional Development Authority Board of Directors.

The New York State Department of Financial Services is aware of information circulating on social media sites suggesting that receiving a COVID-19 vaccination would result in the death benefit not being paid on existing life insurance policies or would result in an individual not being able to obtain new life insurance. Other information suggested that life insurance policies do not cover death due to COVID-19.

This information is false.

County Executive Ryan gave his State of the County Address yesterday. In it he spoke about a Universal Basic Income Pilot Program. 100 qualifying households in the county will be chosen by lottery to receive $500/month for 1 year (NOT Taxpayer funded.) The application process and lottery are being conducted by the University of PA.

Whether you agree with the program in principal or not, it's important to get the word out so the pool of people applying isn't limited to just those "in the know." Please share. A Senior on a fixed income or new college graduate could greatly benefit from the program.

One week into the New Year and 2021 hasn't started off as well as I had hoped. But I remain positive and optimistic for the year ahead. We will continue to be challenged by a politically & socially divided country, and we are still battling an infectious & deadly pandemic. But I know this too shall pass.

The County has created a COVID-19 Vaccination Resource Center and I wanted to share the info with all of you.

Be kind to one another and stay safe.
