Credit-card balances increased by $21 billion during the second quarter of 2026, reaching $1.263 trillion nationally.

The New York Fed also reported that the rate at which credit-card balances moved into serious delinquency remained elevated and was nearly unchanged from a year earlier.

The important lesson is not simply that Americans owe more.

It is that many households are carrying balances that have become increasingly difficult to reduce—especially when interest charges absorb a significant portion of each payment.

National statistics cannot tell you which option is right for your household. They can, however, serve as a reminder to review whether your balances are:

• Declining consistently
• Remaining roughly unchanged
• Increasing despite regular payments

Understanding the direction of your debt is often more useful than looking at the balance alone.

Life is unpredictable, and having an emergency fund can make all the difference when the unexpected happens.

A recent Forbes article found that many Americans have far less saved for emergencies than financial experts recommend. While the goal is often 3–6 months of essential expenses, many people are still working toward that milestone.

Here are a few simple ways to start building your emergency fund:
✔️ Set aside a small amount from every paycheck.
✔️ Keep your emergency savings in a separate account.
✔️ Use it only for true emergencies, not everyday expenses.

Remember, you don't have to save thousands overnight. Consistency is what counts. 🌱

💳 Credit Card Interest Rates Are Still Sky-High

According to the latest data from Forbes Advisor, the average credit card interest rate is now around 25%, making it one of the most expensive ways to borrow money.

Even a small balance can grow quickly when interest is this high, which is why many people feel like they’re not making progress, just keeping up.

Forbes Advisor’s weekly credit card rates report indicates that the current average credit card interest rate is 25.29%. The Federal Reserve also tracks U.S. consumers' average credit card interest rates. As of November 2025, it reported that the average credit card interest rate on accounts with

🛒 Ever feel like your groceries don’t last as long as they used to?

You’re not imagining it. A recent report highlights how “shrinkflation” is hitting stores, same prices, but smaller packages. That means you’re paying more without even realizing it.

Studies show families are spending hundreds more per year on the same groceries, partly because products keep shrinking while prices stay high.

💡 Next time you shop, take a closer look at sizes and unit prices, you might be getting less than you think.

A family of four now spends $741 more a year than in 2020 for the exact same groceries.
