MEDICARE MINUTE
Medicare coverage of telehealth will be limited starting Jan. 30.
Medicare's expanded telehealth coverage, introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, will largely end Jan. 30, with exceptions for behavioral health services and beneficiaries in rural areas. Some services will be covered, such as care for patients with end-stage renal disease and care for patients with acute stroke symptoms.

What is an HMO?
Health maintenance organizations (HMO) * have a network of doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers who provide their services for a specific payment, which allows the HMO to maintain costs for its members. Cost and choice are the 2 features that set HMO's apart from other healthcare plans.

What is a PPO?
Preferred provider organizations (PPO) offer a network of healthcare providers to use for your medical care at a certain rate. Unlike HMO, a PPO offers you the freedom to receive care from any healthcare provider—in or out of your network.

Medical Update: CDC: Heat remains deadliest weather hazard

Extreme heat continues to be the leading weather-related cause of death in the US, with approximately 2,000 fatalities each year. In 2025, the CDC has already recorded 150 heat-related deaths, although this number is expected to rise due to delayed reporting. Over the past few years, the total number of deaths has been significant, with 4,800 deaths recorded in just two years.

To prevent your body from overheating, it's crucial to stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing, and limit strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Seek shade or air conditioning during hot periods and be mindful of the medications you are taking, as they may affect your body's temperature regulation.
