So which medications are actually covered under the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge?

There are three, and the specific formulation matters, so write these down.

Wegovy, both the injectable and the oral tablet form.

Zepbound, but only the KwikPen formulation. The single-dose vial and single-dose pen are not included.

Foundayo, all formulations.
All three are FDA-approved weight management medications.

All three are available at the $50 copay for eligible beneficiaries starting July 1.

One thing that surprises a lot of people: this program runs completely separate from your regular Part D coverage. That means the $50 does not count toward your deductible or your out-of-pocket maximum for the year. It’s its own thing entirely.

The list of covered medications could also be updated as the program runs. CMS already added Foundayo after the original announcement, so it’s worth staying tuned.

For years, one of the most common things we’ve heard from Medicare clients is this: why won’t Medicare cover my weight loss medication?

And for years, the answer was frustrating. Medicare generally didn’t cover GLP-1 drugs just for weight management. Diabetes, heart disease, maybe. But strictly for weight loss? Usually no.

That’s changing.

Starting July 1, 2026, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge goes live nationwide. Eligible Part D beneficiaries can get Wegovy, Zepbound, or Foundayo for $50 a month through December 2027.

This is a confirmed CMS demonstration program. Not a rumor. Not a maybe. It’s happening.

And most people on Medicare have no idea it exists yet.

If you have Medicare and you’ve been told weight loss medications aren’t covered, I need you to read this.

Starting July 1, 2026, CMS is launching something called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. And it is a big deal.

Here’s the short version.

Eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries can now access FDA-approved weight loss medications, including Wegovy and Zepbound, for $50 a month. Not $500. Not $1,200. Fifty dollars.

This is a temporary demonstration program running through December 31, 2027. It’s not permanent, but it’s real, it’s confirmed, and it’s coming fast.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to break down exactly who qualifies, how it works at the pharmacy, and what you need to do before July 1.

Our team are proud members of the National Association of Benefits & Insurance Professionals. (Aka NABIP) We spent the last two days in Columbus with our Ohio Chapter learning about the State of the State and advocacy.

We were educated by officials from the Department of Insurance, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and some of our State Representatives and a Senator. Then we joined in on meetings at Capital Square and spoke with the legislators about the insurance issues and pending legislation which affect our clients.

Are you covered on an Individual plan through the Marketplace? Have you finished your taxes for 2025?
