Five years ago today, we were stationed at Camp Pendleton in beautiful Oceanside, CA. It was the day we received the unexpected news that schools would be closing for two weeks due to the pandemic. Earlier that day, I had made a spontaneous trip to get some herbs, tomato plants, a blueberry bush, and flowers. Little did I realize how much that spring garden would become a source of joy and solace throughout the summer of 2020. Here’s to all the lessons we’ve learned and the resilience we've shown since that pivotal moment!

**Track Your Progress Beyond Budgeting**

Setting goals is such a powerful life skill! It’s something that has truly helped me grow and develop new skills. When I work with teens and young adults, I always kick off our first session by having them set financial, academic, and personal goals. It’s a great way to start their program!

This year, I’ve set a personal goal that’s close to my heart: I’m determined to create the afghan blanket you see in the photo. This cherished piece, lovingly known in our family as “Aunt Jeanne’s Blanket,” was a delightful gift for the brides at their wedding showers. Aunt Jeanne was my Nana, and her knitting patterns were passed down to me earlier this year. I couldn’t be more thrilled! I’ve signed up for knitting classes to improve my skills, aiming to read knitting patterns and finish my first blanket by the year’s end.

I know this journey won’t be without its bumps—I’ll probably drop a few stitches along the way! But during my next class, I’ll be armed with questions for my instructor. My motivation to create a comforting blanket for my family and friends will keep me going.

What personal goals have you set for yourself this year? I’d love to hear about them!

And if you’re looking to tackle your financial goals this year, I’m excited to announce that I’m currently welcoming new financial coaching clients! Whether you want to conquer your budget or confidently chase your financial dreams, I’m here to help. As a proud member of ® (Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education®), I work hand-in-hand with my clients to develop personalized strategies for success. Ready to take the next step? **Track Your Progress: The Journey to the Finish Line**

When we think about tracking progress, we often focus on budgets and financial goals—but it goes so much deeper!

This February, I embarked on an unexpected adventure: training for a 5K race in beautiful Savannah, GA. As someone who has never been a fan of running, I challenged myself when I decided to join my daughter in her Girls on the Run race. They needed parent volunteers for the graduation race, and there I was, motivated to step up!

With a solid training plan in place and an early start, I transformed my routine. Now, thanks to this plan from , I’m counting down the days until race day, not with dread, but with excitement! Knowing I’ve built my endurance means I can keep pace with my daughter and her friends, and that’s an incredible feeling.

How do you track your progress towards your own goals?

And speaking of goals, I’m currently welcoming new financial coaching clients! If you’re looking to master your budget and confidently pursue your financial dreams, I’d love to help. As a proud member of ® (Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education®), I work closely with my clients to create personalized strategies for success. Interested? **Building Financial Confidence: The Resources I Share with My Clients**

Is that degree really worth it?

It’s a question everyone asks, and many high schoolers and college students I’ve worked with respond with a resounding, “I think so.” But let’s dig deeper!

Together, we explore to check out job listings that align with their degree choices. Analyzing the salaries for these positions is crucial—it’s our jumping-off point for crafting a realistic budget for life after graduation. We can also factor in student loan repayments, helping them understand how these obligations can shape their financial landscape in their 20s and 30s.

Have you thought about how student loans might impact your budget while you’re in college?

I’m currently accepting teens and young adults under 25 until March 15. As an accredited financial coach and proud member of ® (Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education®), I’m passionate about guiding my clients to build healthy financial habits. **Unlocking Financial Freedom: Essential Resources for Students**

Navigating the journey from high school to adulthood can be thrilling yet daunting, especially when deciding between college or entering the workforce. When I work with middle and high school students, our discussions revolve around their aspirations—whether they’re dreaming of college or an exciting career right after graduation. Together, we explore potential majors and uncover the colleges that offer them, diving deep into the financial aspects using resources like https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/.

**Why Is This Important?**

Let’s face it: the cost of higher education can be staggering. With the average expenses for attending a public in-state college hovering around $26,000 per year, students could find themselves with a price tag of over $100,000 for a degree, as highlighted by EDsmart.org. It’s essential for students to start planning early!

Here are a few strategies I share with my clients to help them take charge of their future:

1. **Craft a Thoughtful Course Load**: Select your high school classes with intent. Are there courses that could earn you college credits? Make the most of your education!

2. **Start the Scholarship Hunt Early**: Believe it or not, students can begin applying for scholarships as early as 9th grade! This not only builds essential time management skills but also gives them the chance to draft essays that can be refined for future opportunities.

3. **Cultivate a Love for Learning**: Summer breaks are perfect for personal growth! I recommend diving into non-fiction books like *Atomic Habits* by James Clear. This not only enriches their knowledge but also allows students to showcase their extra efforts in application essays and interviews.

I’m excited to announce that I’m accepting young adult clients for my tailored eight-session financial coaching program until March 15, 2025. Every financial journey is unique, and I’m here to provide one-on-one guidance to help each client develop healthy and sustainable financial habits. Ready to embark on this journey? **Discovering Financial Freedom: My Go-To Websites for Clients**

When I have the opportunity to work with teens and young adults, one of the most exciting topics we delve into is the incredible power of compound interest. It’s fascinating to see how investing early can set the stage for a prosperous financial future!

One of my absolute favorite online tools is www.investor.gov. What I love about this site is its clean, ad-free interface that makes it super easy to use, especially its compound interest calculator.

We often run simulations to illustrate just how significant the difference can be when comparing the growth of a Roth IRA opened at 20 versus one opened at 28. It’s empowering for my clients to understand how these choices can dramatically shape their financial trajectory.

If you’re looking to equip your teenager or young adult with the skills to build healthy financial habits, don’t hesitate to reach out! As an accredited financial coach and proud member of ® (Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education®), I’m dedicated to guiding my clients one-on-one towards taking control of their financial lives. **Spring Cleaning and Budget Revamp: Time for an Inventory Check!**

March 1 is just around the corner, and in sunny South Carolina, that means it’s time to bid farewell to “Sweater Weather.” Today, I tackled my closet, and I’ve got some fun strategies to share as you gear up for spring cleaning!

1. **Group it Up:** Start by gathering similar clothing items together. Fold your cozy sweaters and sweatshirts in one section, while giving your shirts and dresses their own hanging space. It’s like giving each category a little home!

2. **Color Code Your Closet:** As I organized my sweaters and sweatshirts by color, I was shocked to discover I had ten cream-colored sweaters! Talk about a wardrobe excess! That was my sign to donate. Think of it as curating your personal fashion collection!

3. **Drawer Labels Are Your Friends:** For those clothes tucked away in drawers, take a page from my playbook—label each drawer with specific categories! I’ve got my T-shirts hanging out in one drawer and my shorts and pants chilling in the one below. It’s a game changer for staying organized!

Now that my spring clothing inventory is complete, I’ve decided to put my shopping on hold for a bit. Instead, I’m reallocating that clothing budget towards exciting adventures and dining experiences—because who doesn’t love a little travel and good food?

What about you? Do you have any clever strategies for decluttering your closet? I’d love to hear your tips—feel free to drop them in the comments!

**Revitalize Your Space and Finances: Embrace Spring Cleaning and Budgeting**

This past weekend, I dove into my closets for some spring cleaning, and I can’t tell you how liberating it felt! Clearing out clothes isn’t just about tidying up; it’s a chance to refresh our minds and spaces. There are so many good reasons to let go of those old garments:

1. They’ve become too snug or just don’t fit right anymore.
2. The style has lost its charm, and you’re ready for a change.
3. Those outfits for activities or jobs you no longer participate in? Time to part ways!

So, what should you do with the clothes gathering dust? Here are some great options:

1. **Donate**: Bless a local non-profit with what you no longer need.
2. **Resell**: Turn your unwanted pieces into cash by listing them on or .
3. **Retailer Buyback**: Check if your favorite stores, like , offer buyback programs.

Not only does decluttering help you see what you truly have, but it also highlights what you need to buy with purpose going forward.

And speaking of buying with purpose, are you ready to take control of your finances? If you want to learn how to craft a monthly budget that empowers you to spend wisely while enjoying the things you love, I’m here to help! I work one-on-one with my financial coaching clients, guiding you on how to make money work for you, not the other way around.

**Spring Cleaning and Budgeting: A Fresh Start!**

As a child in the early 1990s, I was captivated by the world of books, with Molly being my absolute favorite character. Over the years, I curated an impressive collection—just take a look at the photo below! My hope was to one day pass this treasure trove down to my daughter.

However, life unfolds in a funny way. While I am genuinely grateful to have a daughter, she’s not quite as enchanted by dolls as I was at her age. Instead, she dives into different reading adventures and engages in various activities that spark her imagination.

Realizing it was time for my cherished doll collection to find a new home, I considered selling it online. A quick search revealed that similar items were listed for over $1,000! However, with everything else happening in my life right now, I ultimately decided to donate my beloved collection to a local thrift store, , that supports Catholic schools. They’ll know the market better than I do and can price the items accordingly.

I plan to adjust our March budget to reflect this donation. It feels liberating to clear space and energy in my home as I move on to tackle the next closet!

If you’re curious about how to create a streamlined monthly budget that accommodates generosity and decluttering, contact me today. Let’s make budgeting a breeze together.

Spring Cleaning and Budgeting: A Fresh Start!

As summer approaches, our weekends and evenings are buzzing with preparations for our upcoming move. Having relocated 11 times as an adult, I’ve picked up some tried-and-true strategies to streamline the process—especially when decluttering those pesky closets!

Here’s a simple yet effective technique I use for deciding what to keep:

1. “Have I used this item during my time here?”
- “No?” Off it goes! It’s time to let it find a new home.
- “Yes?” Let’s dig a little deeper.

2. “Will I actually use this item in the future?”
- “No?” Say goodbye! It’s better to free up space than hold onto something just taking up room.
- “Yes?” Fabulous! Pack it up and get ready for the next chapter.

Take, for instance, the vase in the photo. It was a wedding gift, and while I don’t often bring it out, it recently became the perfect home for fresh flowers from . Even though it’s not a daily item, it will definitely be moving with us! Plus, it’s a great reminder of what I already own. Whenever I spot a stunning vase while out shopping, I can resist the urge to buy it because I remember what I already have—allowing me to save that cash for other important financial goals.
