Your success as a business owner depends on understanding these 3 financial statements.

They tell a story about what is really going on in your business.

1. Balance Sheet: How much is your business worth? It’s a snapshot of what your business owns, what it owes and how much owners have invested in it.

2. Income Statement: Is your business profitable? It gives a detail look at the revenue earned and expenses involved in operating.

3. Statement of Cash Flow: It tells you how much much cash is coming in and going out of the business.

If you don’t know where to get started creating these statements, there are free templates online. But as your business gets more profitable, you’ll need better software to keep track of all the transactions.

And so you don’t have to waste your precious time on them, consider hiring me to help you with these.

Let’s have a discussion on how these benefit you. You will be amazed!

Share this with a fellow entrepreneur and if you have any questions, send me a DM. I’m happy to help. We are all in this together!

Working with a bookkeeper can help you stay on budget so you aren’t distracted by shiny new things. (And did you notice one of the words spelled wrong? I did cuz I look for the details.)

When your business is just starting out, single entry is fine to keep track of your transactions. It’s like your personal bank registry. But once you grow, and your business gets larger and more complex, you’ll need double entry. It’s two entries for each transaction. So starting with a spreadsheet works fine at first, but moving to a software program like QuickBooks, will really help you understand your business.

Business owners need to say to themselves, “ Nobody can move money, pay bills or process payroll but me.”
Here are a few things your bookkeeper should never be able to do: * Sign checks, pay bills, transfer money. * Have unlimited access to your bank account. It should be read only.
* Have access to your bank account and social security numbers.

Many people aren’t sure how a Bookkeeper and Accountant are different. They both manage a company’s finances but it’s important to know when you need one over the other. A Bookkeeper is involved in the day to day operations. They organize the finances and make sure the transactions are well-documented. They also prepare the Balance Sheet and Income Statement. The Accountant analyzes those statements and reveal the big picture and health of the business. Accountants also prepare the taxes. As a Small Business owner, it’s important to have both professionals helping you since they work hand in hand.

Remember the song? Keep it in your head when you want to use your personal account to buy business stuff, and vice versa.

Inevitably, you are going to do it. You don't have your personal credit card on you when you need to buy groceries, so you whip out the business card. But generally speaking, it's best practice to keep the money going in and out of your business account, strictly business.

For one, it makes bookkeeping much easier. There's no need to sift through all the transactions to try and remember which ones were business and which ones weren't.

For another, if it's something done regularly, it can put you in jeopardy. You open your personal finances up to potential litigation in the event there is a lawsuit against your business, whether it's an LLC or Corp.
