Every Tuesday night we gather virtually as dads to share our perspectives on different topics. It's an amazing group.

This week's topic: What is something you are embarrassed or self conscious to admit you don't know about or don't know how to do?

The only requirement is that you're a dad! Come and share your perspective, or sit and listen. You are welcome to do what suits you best!

Every Tuesday night from 5:30-7:00pm central time Dads Uplifting Dads has a conversation. We cover a wide spectrum of topics. If you've had to deal with it as a man or dad, we are willing to talk about it.

Last night we had 3 local educators on to share their experiences and perspectives.

Here are 3 major takeaways:

-Communicate early with your teacher. Let them know you are involved by filling out paperwork, especially any 'getting to know you' type activities. Don't feel bad reaching out by phone or email.

- Teaching and education are sciences. There are reasons a 4 year degree is required. The planning, pedagogy, and systems involved in education are all researched. Trust them.

- Each educator had a clear vision for the purpose of school and education. Just like their perspectives, these visions came from their own experiences. Get to know your kid's teacher and find out the passion behind their work. It'll make what they do every day even more important to you.

If you are interested in joining in conversations like this, comment below or send me a DM! We would love to hear your perspective on Dadhood!

I recently was promoted at to the title of Fatherhood Navigator.

I am super stoked because this will allow me to work exclusively with fathers. That work will happen in 1 on 1 settings as well as facilitating groups.

We are looking for dads in McLean County who could use coaching, help finding jobs, legal advice, housing help...you name it and we will have an answer.

I'm excited to get started. Be on the lookout for more things coming!

The true purpose of Dads Uplifting Dass is building a community. To have dads share with other dads their perspectives, stories and experiences.

We learn so much from hearing what other dads go through. Not only that, we understand that we aren't struggling or worrying alone. There is power in realizing we have brothers doing this with us.

If you want to join in, there will always be a spot for you! Ask how you can get involved!

Mr. Doback: Listen to me. Dale, look, when I was a kid...when I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a dinosaur. I wanted to be a Tyrannosaurus rex more than anything in the world. I made my arms short and I roamed the backyard...and I chased the neighborhood cats, and I growled and I roared. Everybody knew me and was afraid of me. And then one day, my dad said, "Bobby, you're 17. It's time to throw childish things aside." And I said, "Okay, Pop." But he didn't really say that, he said, "Stop being a fu***ng dinosaur and get a job." But, you know, I thought to myself, "I'll go to medical school...l'll practice for a little while, and then I'll come back to it.

Brennan: How is that a skill?

Mr. Doback: But I forgot how to do it.

Dale: You're human. You could never be a dinosaur.

Brennan:- Yeah.

Mr. Doback:Hey, I lost it.

Dale: Dad, what's the point?

Brennan: Yeah.

Mr. Doback: The point is... don't lose your dinosaur.

Give your kids a seat at the table!

When your kids understand that their voice matters, their voice will get stronger and improve:
- Cost/benefit analysis
- Perspective on decision making
- Sense of self

Set up a future where your kid feels comfortable at any table 💚💚

Sometimes we can focus so much on doing better for our kids that we forget to do the same for ourselves.

The best way to help our kids is to be good to ourselves. Kids watch everything we do, including how we treat and talk to ourselves.

If we want our kids to grow up loving themselves and talking about themselves in a positive way, we have to lead by example.

Love yourself. Be kind to yourself.
