Becoming the Man God Called You to Be…
A Husband's Walk With Christ
1. Love Your Wife Unconditionally: Ephesians 5:25-33 emphasizes how husbands are to love their wives just as Christ loved the church. This love is selfless and nurturing. "Husbands, love your wives [seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love], just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her..." This involves prioritizing her needs and striving to build her up emotionally and spiritually.
2. Avoid Resentment: Colossians 3:19 advises husbands to love their wives without resentment or bitterness. "Husbands, love your wives [with an affectionate, sympathetic, selfless love that always seeks the best for them] and do not be embittered or resentful toward them [because of the responsibilities of marriage]." A gentle heart leads to a nurturing relationship.
3. Be Understanding and Respectful: In 1 Peter 3:7, you are reminded to treat your wife with understanding and honor. "In the same way, you husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way [with great gentleness and tact, and with an intelligent regard for the marriage relationship]..." This means listening to her, valuing her thoughts and feelings, and treating her with the respect she deserves.
4. Lead Spiritually: As the head of the household, nurturing your spiritual relationship with God will help you lead your family well. Grow in your faith through prayer, Scripture reading, and involvement in your church community. This will set a strong example for your family.
5. Communicate Openly: Make time to talk with your wife about her needs, your needs, and your family life. Open and honest communication builds trust and connection.
6. Serve Your Family: Engage in practical ways to serve your wife and children, showing love through actions.
