It has been brought to my attention from two citizens of Montgomery County that someone has contacted them claiming to be my Brother-in-law and that I had been in a bad car accident within the past 24 hours. They further stated that they could get their loved one out of jail for a fee to be paid at any Dollar General, CVS, and a few other stores. The family was instructed that they could not go to the Montgomery County Jail due to a large COVID outbreak and that this "Bondsman" was at the jail facilitating getting people released. Please, this is a scam and please if you don't know the person you are talking to or have doubts, payments can be made directly in person AT THE JAIL to any bondsman if and when you are ready to proceed to get anyone out of any jail in North Carolina. No bondsman in the State should contact you and demand payment over the phone or tell you to go put it on a card at a store and give them the numbers so they can get your loved one, friend, or family member out of jail. Thank goodness these people reached out to me to verify this story because the have dealt with me and knew me. The scammer was calling from an Alabama based number.
