June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. 💜

If you're caring for a parent or spouse with dementia here in the Fairfax area, I just want to say -- you are doing something incredibly hard, and you deserve support too.

One of the things I hear most often from families is this: "I didn't know help was available until we were already in crisis."

You don't have to wait for a crisis.

In-home care can start small -- a few hours a week to give you a break, help with meals, or simply have someone sit with your loved one so you can breathe.

We work with families all across Fairfax County and we meet you exactly where you are.

If you have questions about what memory care-informed home care looks like, just comment below or send us a message. There are no silly questions and no pressure.

You've got someone in your corner. 💜

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to leave you with something practical for families caring for a loved one with dementia.

Three small things that can make a big difference at home:

1. Keep a consistent daily routine. Predictability is calming for someone with memory loss.
2. Simplify choices. Instead of "what do you want for lunch?" try "would you like soup or a sandwich?"
3. Meet them where they are. If they believe it is 1975, step into that moment with kindness rather than correcting them.

Caring for someone with dementia is a skill, and it gets easier with the right support around you.

Always Best Care is here for your family. Reach out anytime.

There is a difference between forgetting where you put your keys and forgetting what keys are for.

Dementia affects more than 6 million Americans, and for many families the hardest part is recognizing the early signs before a crisis forces the conversation.

Some early warning signs to watch for in an aging loved one:
- Repeating the same question multiple times in one conversation
- Getting lost on a familiar route
- Struggling to follow a simple recipe or pay a bill
- Withdrawal from hobbies or social activities

If something feels off, trust that instinct. An early conversation with a doctor makes all the difference.

At Always Best Care of Fairfax, we support families navigating memory care at home with compassion and consistency.

Hope everyone had a restful Memorial Day weekend.

For many family caregivers, long weekends are not a break. They are four days of round-the-clock care with no backup, no relief, and no time to recharge.

If that was your weekend, we see you. And we want you to know that asking for help is not giving up. It is the most sustainable thing you can do for your loved one.

Always Best Care of Fairfax is here when you are ready to talk.

This Memorial Day weekend, we are thinking of the veterans and military families in our community, including the older veterans right here in Fairfax County who served so much and deserve every bit of support in their later years.

If you have a veteran parent or grandparent who could benefit from care at home, we would be honored to help. Always Best Care of Fairfax serves veterans and their families, and we are here to answer any questions about care options.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and restful weekend.

Falls are the leading cause of injury among adults 65 and older. And the scary part? Most happen at home.

A few things that raise fall risk:
- Loose rugs or cluttered walkways
- Poor lighting in hallways and bathrooms
- Medications that affect balance
- Living alone with no one to notice early warning signs

Our caregivers are trained in fall prevention and work with families to create safer home environments. It is one of the most important things we do.

Tag a family member who helps care for an older loved one. This matters.

Did you know arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States? More than 54 million Americans live with it, and for older adults, it can quietly steal the ability to do everyday things independently.

Buttoning a shirt. Opening a jar. Getting in and out of the shower safely.

At Always Best Care of Fairfax, we help seniors maintain independence at home even as conditions like arthritis make daily life harder. Small, consistent support makes a big difference.

Is there a senior in your life who could use an extra hand? We are a call away.

Myth: Home Care Is Only for People Who Are Very Sick

Not true. Many of our clients in are active, social seniors who simply need help with a few daily tasks: laundry, meals, transportation, or medication reminders.

Home care is for anyone who wants to stay safe and comfortable at home, at any level of need. You do not have to wait for a crisis.

What Is a Senior Care Advocate and How Can One Help Your Patients?

I get this question from healthcare professionals fairly often. In short: I assess a senior's home care needs, match them with the right professionals, coordinate with families, and stay involved long after care is in place.

I am an extension of your care team for the post-acute home setting. I serve families across Fairfax County and all of Northern Virginia. If your patients are going home and you are not sure they will have the support they need, let's talk
