A creditor cannot report an account late until it's 30 days late, with that being said we always suggest reaching out to see if a payment can be pushed out or deferred if funds are tight. If it was an accident, your best bet is calling the creditor, explaining the situation and asking for a one time courtesy removal of the late payment.

Confused why your credit scores are different between the 3 credit bureaus? The reason is because the 3 different bureaus are separate entities, they don't communicate with each other and they don't always get the same information. Most creditors aren't required to report to the credit bureaus and often times they won't report to all 3 because they have to pay to report to your account.

Not every credit report looks the same, different credit vendors list account information in different sections and sometimes even use different verbiage. But if you know what you're looking for it makes it a lot easier to read the report

Below is a cheat sheet of all the account types and ratings typically found on a lender report, most accounts are labeled with combination of a letter and then a number for their rating.

Looking to purchase a home soon but don't have credit scores? It's not impossible, however you will have much better options by having them. Most banks and lenders want to see a history of responsible borrowing, especially if they are going to loan you a large amount of money.
