Many first time homebuyers in AL are finding it difficult to qualify for homeowners insurance.

That’s because eligibility has tightened significantly over the past year. Even with no claims on your record, if you have low/mediocre credit and/or don’t have a track record with property insurance, it could be a rough go.

You may have to go with a less reputable company and/or pay an exorbitant premium - often as much as $3800 a year to insure a starter home!

If you or someone you know is planning to buy a home in the future, buy and maintain renters insurance. It’s a low as $9 a month and protects your belongings while also improving your eligibility for home or condo insurance.

This is one of the best tips I can give my home seeking friends, realtors, lenders, and parents of young adults.
