The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has received reports of scammers posing as Sheriff's Office deputies in an attempt to steal money and personal information from residents.
These scammers may call claiming you have an outstanding warrant, missed jury duty, or face immediate arrest unless you make a payment. They often demand payment through gift cards, Bitcoin, other digital currency, or cash, and may even ask for sensitive personal information.

Remember:

✅The Shelby County Sheriff's Office will NEVER demand money or personal information over the phone.
✅We will NEVER threaten you with arrest or legal action during a phone call.
✅If you're unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and contact us directly at 205-670-6000. In an emergency, dial 911.
✅Never send money or provide personal or financial information to an unsolicited caller.

🚩Red Flags
• The caller uses threats or intimidation.
• They claim you have an outstanding warrant or missed a court appearance.
• They demand immediate payment.
• They ask for your Social Security number, banking information, or other personal details.
• They insist you pay using gift cards or cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin.

If You Receive One of These Calls:
➡Hang up immediately.
➡Do not send money or share personal information.
