Be aware…

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Stewart has issued an administrative order allowing presiding circuit judges to close courts and judicial branch offices as Hurricane Isaias approaches.

Closures will be determined locally, not statewide. Under Rule 5(D) of the Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration, certain filing deadlines may be extended when clerks’ or registers’ offices are closed due to severe weather.

Attorneys and the public are encouraged to monitor announcements from their local courts for closure updates and scheduling changes.

I have issued a state of emergency for 40 counties.

Forecasts continue to show the real likelihood that the tropical system brewing in the Gulf could impact Alabama as a hurricane as early as Friday.

While I hope for minimal impacts, we must take preparations seriously.

🐶Beau's Law goes into effect on Thursday, October 1.
What you need to know:

🐾This law establishes minimum standards for dogs kept outdoors.
🐾The dog must have adequate food, continuous access to adequate, potable water and appropriate shelter to protect from weather and give it enough room to stand, turn around, lie down, and stretch.
🐾The shelter must also be clean and free of accumulated waste and standing water.

🐾It also establishes rules on how dogs can be tethered. A tethering system must meet requirements to prevent the dog from becoing tangled, injured or strangled.
Choke collars, pinch collars and heavy logging chains are prohibited.

🏠These same rules apply to dogs that are in fenced yards.

❎A first violation is a Class C misdemeanor and a Class A misdemeanor will follow for subsequent offenses.

ending Sunday, July 19 at midnight. This event gives shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school
supplies, computers, and clothing free of state sales tax. Local sales tax may still apply. For more information,

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has received reports of scammers posing as Sheriff's Office deputies in an attempt to steal money and personal information from residents.
These scammers may call claiming you have an outstanding warrant, missed jury duty, or face immediate arrest unless you make a payment. They often demand payment through gift cards, Bitcoin, other digital currency, or cash, and may even ask for sensitive personal information.

Remember:

✅The Shelby County Sheriff's Office will NEVER demand money or personal information over the phone.
✅We will NEVER threaten you with arrest or legal action during a phone call.
✅If you're unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and contact us directly at 205-670-6000. In an emergency, dial 911.
✅Never send money or provide personal or financial information to an unsolicited caller.

🚩Red Flags
• The caller uses threats or intimidation.
• They claim you have an outstanding warrant or missed a court appearance.
• They demand immediate payment.
• They ask for your Social Security number, banking information, or other personal details.
• They insist you pay using gift cards or cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin.

If You Receive One of These Calls:
