🚨 Fraud Buster Recognition 🚨

Congratulations to Julie Roberson of Mosley Title Company in Bossier City, Louisiana, on recently being recognized as a Fraud Buster for stopping a seller impersonation fraud.

From the beginning, the transaction didn’t feel quite right. Julie trusted her instincts early in the process, raising concerns before the file moved forward. When she shared those concerns with Lance Mosley, owner of Mosley Title Company, he noticed the seller claimed to be from Fordyce, Arkansas, a town Lance knows well.

Lance picked up the phone and called the seller.

He casually asked the seller how the local high school football team - the Fordyce Lions - had done the previous season. He also talked about that famous football coach from the same town. You see, Lance knew exactly what he was doing.

The seller confidently talked about the “Lions.”

There’s just one problem…

Anyone from Fordyce knows the hometown team is the Fordyce Redbugs. They also know one of the town’s most famous natives - legendary football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. You know who didn’t know Bear Bryant? The seller.

That simple conversation confirmed Julie’s suspicions. This story is a great reminder about trusting your instincts, sharing your concerns, and applying a little local knowledge to stop a fraud from occurring.

A native of Florence, Alabama, Katherine is a graduate of the University of North Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Professional Management with a minor in Marketing. She combines strong organizational skills with a passion for helping others and delivering exceptional service.

Katherine will be based in our Birmingham office. We are excited to have Katherine join the ALMA team and look forward to the contributions she will make for our agents and team.

We were honored to have Michele Green, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Agency Operations at Fidelity National Financial, join us in Birmingham this week.

Michele spoke at the United States Secret Service Cyber Fraud Task Force meeting. Michele shared practical strategies for managing risk, minimizing losses, and strengthening the fight against fraud in Alabama. We appreciate her expertise and leadership on this important topic.

🚨 Fraud Buster Recognition 🚨

Seller impersonation fraud continues to be one of the fastest-growing threats facing our industry.

Last week, we recognized Salina Rivers, Kristi Finley, and DeeDee Coffman of First National Title in Malvern, Arkansas, with Fraud Buster Certificates for working together to stop a sophisticated seller impersonation attempt.

Immediately after receiving the order, the team noticed several inconsistencies that simply didn’t feel right. Rather than accepting the information at face value, they asked additional questions, verified key details, and worked together to investigate the concerns. Their diligence ultimately confirmed that the individual claiming to be the seller was, in fact, an impersonator, preventing a potentially devastating fraud.

This office utilizes ClosingLock as an important fraud prevention tool, but in this case the fraud was detected before it ever reached that stage. It was the team’s knowledge, curiosity, and willingness to ask the right questions that stopped the fraudster in his tracks. Vigilant people make the difference!
