Good info regarding the GLP-1 Bridge Progam. Remember this is a temporary program and is set to expire at the end of 2027.

The GLP-1 Bridge Program begins today. The link below is something you can forward to your pharmacy or P*P if they're unfamiliar with how the program works. The program is also not permanent and is scheduled to end December 31, 2027.

A couple of notes, this program is specifically for weight loss and your Part D plan is not involved but you must have a Part D plan.

If your doctor has already been prescribing this for sleep apnea or diabetes it will not be covered through the Bridge program. A request must be submitted to your Part D plan and once approved your insurance company will pay its portion. Any amount you pay will go toward your annual maximum-out-of-pocket of $2,100.

If you are approved for the Bridge program your $50 copay does not go toward the maximum-out-of-pocket because it is technically not through your insurance company.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the Better Approaches to Lifestyle and Nutrition for Comprehensive hEalth (BALANCE) Model and a separate short-term demonstration (now called the “Medicare GLP-1 Bridge”)

A new weight loss medication pilot program is set to begin in July. It’s called the Bridge Program. This does not go through your Part D insurance plan. Your MD sends a prescription to the pharmacy and also completes a prior authorization. The pharmacy sells it to you for $50 and the government subsidizes the rest.

Millions of Medicare enrollees will gain their first-ever coverage for drugs for weight loss under a temporary pilot program that launches July 1.
