This one's a little trickier!

PITI stands for:

• Principal – Pays down the loan balance.
• Interest – The cost of borrowing money.
• Taxes – Property taxes that may be included in the monthly payment.
• Insurance – Homeowners insurance, and sometimes other required insurance.

When people talk about a monthly mortgage payment, they're often referring to the full PITI payment, not just the principal and interest.

PMI stands for Private Mortgage Insurance.

PMI is typically required on many conventional loans when the down payment is less than 20%.

It helps protect the lender if the loan goes into default, allowing many buyers to purchase a home sooner without waiting to save a full 20% down payment.

Depending on the loan and payment history, PMI may be removed later once certain equity requirements are met.
