Most months, you’ll find me putting in about 20 hours at the VFW.

After 26 years in the Air Force, I’ve learned that service doesn’t really stop when the uniform comes off. The VFW is a place where veterans from every generation and every branch look out for one another and keep showing up for the community around them.

Showing up for the veterans in our community is one of my favorite ways to keep serving.

Financial Terms Most Pretend to Understand: Diversification

Remember the carnival game where one good throw sends the whole stack of cans flying?

That’s what it can look like when everything you’ve got is stacked in one place. Diversification means spreading your money across different types of investments, so one bad throw doesn’t knock everything down at once. It won’t keep every can from wobbling, but how your stack is built matters.

First Duty Station Edition: Roth or Traditional TSP

So you found your TSP. Now it's asking you to choose between Roth and traditional, and it's easy to just click whatever's already selected.

The big difference comes down to when you pay taxes. Which one makes more sense depends on your pay, your goals, and what you expect your life to look like down the road. The answer isn't the same for everyone, and you may be surprised which one may fit your situation best.

First Duty Station Edition: the TSP

New base, new job, and a new LES full of lines you've never seen before. Somewhere in there is the Thrift Savings Plan, and it's easy to skim right past it.

The TSP is the retirement savings plan for service members. If you're under the Blended Retirement System, you're automatically enrolled, and the government matches part of what you put in. That match is part of your pay, and a lot of people leave some of it on the table without realizing it.

Then there's where your money goes once it's in. The TSP has its own alphabet soup: the G, F, C, S, and I Funds, plus the Lifecycle (L) Funds, which blend them based on when you plan to retire. Most new members are placed in an L Fund by default, but that doesn't mean it's the right fit for your goal.

This past Friday our team was honored to support the Fallen Heroes Butterfly Release at Marina Park on Keesler AFB.

The Air Force Families Forever Fallen Heroes Butterfly Garden is dedicated to the men and women who served and died while on active duty. It gives their families a quiet, peaceful place to come and remember.

To every family who released a butterfly on Friday, we are forever grateful for your loved one's service.

Couldn't be prouder of the amazing group of advisors I have the honor to lead.

Today we honor Gold Star Mothers and Families.

For 26 years in the Air Force, I served alongside men and women whose families gave more than anyone should ever be asked to give. Their loved ones' names, and the families who carry them forward, stay with me.

To every Gold Star family, thank you. We honor you and remember your loved ones today and every day.

The First Command Biloxi team was honored to attend the Training Wing's Air Force Ball at Keesler Air Force Base, celebrating 79 years of United States Air Force excellence!

Amazing events like this doesn't just happen. Someone plans the venue, the ceremony, the seating, and every detail that keeps the evening running smoothly. Everyone else makes sure the uniform is pressed, the tux fits, and the tickets are in hand well before the big night.

That same kind of planning goes into your financial goals, whether you're building for the future or getting ready for retirement.
