🌀 NHC has found that Tropical Storm Arthur formed on Wednesday morning based on wind data from buoy observations, a ship report, and the Hurricane Hunters.

The storm is heavily sheared, so additional strengthening is not expected. And Arthur only has a few more short hours over Gulf water before it is forecast to make landfall near the TX / LA line by Wednesday night.

🌧️ Coastal MS will be well to the east of the TX/LA landfall. But the worst rain with this storm is on its eastern side. Coastal MS will remain under the threat of flooding rain on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as the system slowly moves northeastward and some of its rainbands linger in the area. Sometimes, tropical rainbands/squalls can contain a risk for brief/weak tornadoes. So, we may have to monitor the possibility of that.

🌬️Any 39mph+ wind impacts are still expected to be confined to coastal TX/LA, there is currently no expectation of 39mph+ sustained wind in Coastal MS although it could be somewhat gusty at times on Wednesday and Thursday.

🌊Any storm surge impacts are expected to be confined to coastal TX/LA. There is currently no expectation of storm surge in Coastal MS although there could be higher than usual tides on Wednesday & Thursday.

Think flood insurance is only for homes near water? Think again.

When new neighborhoods, roads, and businesses are built, rainwater has fewer places to soak into the ground. That means more runoff, more standing water, and a greater chance of flooding—even in areas that have never flooded before.

💧 More pavement = More runoff
💧 More runoff = More flood risk

And remember: Homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage.
