Yes and No.... Some clients believe that the solution to their bad credit is to get a new car and just pay it on time. Well, purchasing a car with bad credit will definitely have you paying for a car at twice its actual value.

How? In interest rates.

People with good credit interest rates are normally in the single digits (ex.2.9%-4.9-%). You can purchase a car with bad credit but you will pay for it in interest and a down payment (ex interest rates 10%-24%). While purchasing a car and paying it on time every month will help your payment history on your credit report, it does affect your income to debt ratio, which affects how much credit you can apply for in the future.

You have to be clear about your credit goals to determine if purchasing a car is a good move.

If you plan to purchase a home, purchasing a personal car may not be good for your credit.

Also, paying a car off only shows up as a closed account on your credit report, which is not a positive mark on your credit profile.
