Decode bourbon labels 🔍️

What’s on the label tells you more about what’s in the bottle.

👉️Straight Bourbon: Aged for at least two years in new, charred oak barrels.
👉️Bottled-in-Bond: Made by one distiller at one distillery during one distilling season, aged at least four years, and bottled at 100 proof.
👉️Single Barrel: Wh***ey from one individual barrel, with characteristics that can vary from barrel to barrel.
👉️Small Batch: There’s no legally defined batch size. Each producer decides what this term means for its wh***ey.
👉️Finished Bourbon: Bourbon that undergoes additional maturation in a secondary barrel, such as one previously used for w**e, sherry, or another spirit, to develop additional flavors.

“Triple malt” refers to the three malted ingredients in that recipe. Malting involves allowing grain to sprout before drying it, developing enzymes that help turn starch into fermentable sugars while also influencing flavor.
