The City of Bethlehem Police Department is warning the public about a recent extortion scam targeting home-service businesses.

An individual will contact a business through a messaging application posing as a customer requesting services. The individual builds rapport with the business owner and then initiates a video call. Following the call, the victim is extorted due to an altered video of them with illegal or explicit content.

Be cautious with customers requesting video calls, do not send money, and cease communication with any extorting individuals. Save all messages, numbers, and screenshots and then report it to police right away.
