Last night the BNI Capital Business Alliance took it outside the meeting room.

Our Full Chapter Meetup at Silver Branch Lagerhaus and Biergarten in Silver Spring, MD brought the whole chapter together for an evening of great food, great drinks, and even better conversations.

And if that was not enough, our own Ceylon Mitchell of M3 Mitchell Media ran a Headshot Marathon on site, giving members a chance to level up their professional image while building relationships in person.

This is what Givers Gain looks like beyond the weekly meeting. Ceylon showed up to serve the chapter, and that is exactly the kind of culture that makes this group different.

Grateful for every member and visitor who came out. The energy in the room was a reminder of why we do this.

If you are a business professional in the DMV looking for a community that actually shows up for each other, come visit us.

Ever feel like you’re just managing symptoms rather than finding real solutions for your health?

Meet Gabriela A. Van Sickle, the owner of Functional Physical Therapy in Rockville and a dedicated member of our BNI Capital Business Alliance. In this video, Gabby reveals how she identifies the root cause of dysfunction to help her patients truly thrive.

We explored Gabby’s story using the BNI G.A.I.N.S. process (Goals, Accomplishments, Interests, Networks, and Skills), and you won't want to miss what she shares:

A Decade of Growth: How she built a successful practice that has been her family’s sole support for 9 years.

The Power of Mentorship: Why her mission is shifting from helping one person at a time to training the next generation of clinicians to impact the wider community.

Life Outside the Clinic: What this local business owner and mom of two does to stay recharged and "sane" when she isn't treating patients.

Feeling Heard: The specific way Gabby ensures her patients finally understand exactly what is happening in their bodies and the plan moving forward.

Who is the ideal referral for Dr. Gabby? From women navigating life after baby to men over 60, she describes the specific groups she is most passionate about helping.

Watch the full video to hear Dr. Gabby’s insights and see why she is such a trusted specialist in our community!

Our BNI Capital Business Alliance members gathered in person at Silver Branch Lagerhaus and Biergarten in Silver Spring for a hands on working session focused on one clear objective. Make every member more visible and easier to refer.

Instead of just talking about growth, we took action. Laptops were open. Profiles were updated. Messaging was clarified. Members received live support on how to write compelling BNI Connect profiles that clearly communicate who they help, how they help, and what referrals to look for.

An incomplete or vague profile guarantees missed opportunities. A strong, specific profile opens the door to referrals not just from our chapter, but from BNI members across the country and around the world.

Today was another powerful example of our chapter coming together with intention. We invested time to strengthen each other’s visibility, credibility, and profitability.

That is how you turn connection into real business growth!

We were incredibly honored to welcome Mary Kennedy Thompson to our chapter today. Mary is truly an all star, and we are both lucky and excited to have her visiting and engaging with our members.

With more than 30 years of experience in franchising, Mary has dedicated her career to supporting business owners and entrepreneurs at every stage. Her background includes global expansion, integrations, and compassionate, effective leadership. She joins BNI from Neighborly®, the world’s largest home services company, where she most recently served as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing operations across 30 brands and more than 5,500 franchises in six countries.

Mary’s journey also includes service as a U.S. Marine Corps Logistics Officer, successful experience as a multi unit franchise owner, and senior leadership roles guiding brands through growth and transformation. Her leadership has been recognized with multiple honors, including the IFA William Rosenberg Foundation Leadership Award, the Bonny Levine Award, and the Crystal Compass Award. She is also a Certified Franchise Executive and serves as a board member and 2024 Chair Elect of the International Franchise Association.

Her passion for empowering business owners is deeply aligned with BNI’s mission, and her presence reflects an exciting and transformational chapter for the organization. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn from her and to have her connect with our members.

What a great time getting together as a full chapter in person at Silver Branch Lagerhaus & Biergarten. There’s something different about connecting face-to-face, sharing a few laughs, and having real conversations that go beyond the weekly meeting. It was a fun, energizing meetup filled with great networking, stronger connections, and plenty of relationship-building.

Events like this are a big part of how we keep our chapter strong. BNI is built on Givers Gain, and it’s so much easier to live that out when we spend intentional time together outside the regular agenda. These meetups give us the space to sharpen our weekly asks, learn each other’s “who do you know” triggers, and build the trust that makes referrals and visitors feel natural. Strong relationships lead to quality referrals, and quality referrals lead to real results.

Huge thanks to everyone who came out and helped make it such a positive afternoon, and a special shoutout to our visitors for joining us. If you missed this one, we’d love to see you at the next meetup, keep the momentum going, and continue building that know, like, and trust that makes our chapter thrive.

Our recent Power of Connections closed chapter event delivered exactly what it promised. Real education, meaningful conversation, and clear next steps for growth.

Hosted at Jamie Hamelburg’s office, this members only experience was thoughtfully designed by Rachel Shakeford Dussau, Naheed, and Kay Loughrey. The program focused on helping members better understand the VCP process and where they currently stand in terms of visibility, credibility, and profitability.

Members broke into small groups to assess their progress, share insights, and then create intentional action plans. Those plans did not end when the event did. Pairs of members committed to going deeper together after the event to continue building stronger relationships and results.

This is what happens when education meets collaboration and accountability. Connection turns into clarity, and clarity turns into action.
