Little Thompson Water District provides clean, reliable water to customers in northern Colorado. Vrain Rivers on the east, and the foothills on the west.

LTWD is a quasi-municipal corporation and a political subdivision of the State of Colorado formed by decree in 1961. LTWD was created in 1961 for the purpose of providing water facilities and services for the residents within LTWD’s boundaries. In 1962, LTWD began serving domestic water to a 250-square-mile area in Larimer, Weld and Boulder counties. The service area generally is bounded by the City of Loveland on the north, Longs Peak Water District on the south, the City of Greeley, the South Platte and St. It expanded to include the former Arkins Water Association in 2000 and the Town of Mead in 2002, as well as the Barefoot Lakes Subdivision in Firestone. LTWD is fully committed to providing accessible facilities, elements, and channels of communication to all members of the public. At the Carter Lake Filter Plants, water goes through several steps before it enters LTWD’s distribution system:

• Coagulation and flocculation
• Filtration
• Disinfection
• Fluoridation
• Corrosion control

And the process doesn’t stop there. Water is continuously monitored and then moved through miles of transmission lines, storage tanks and pumping stations before reaching customers.

It’s a complex system built around one simple goal: providing safe, reliable, good-tasting water.

Your sprinkler system is ready for a break. Is your yard?

As temperatures drop, it’s time to wrap up outdoor watering and get your irrigation system ready for winter. If you haven’t scheduled your sprinkler blowout yet, now is the time to make it happen.

A few things to check:
• Finish up seasonal watering as temperatures cool
• Schedule your sprinkler blowout before freezing temperatures arrive
• Disconnect hoses and protect outdoor faucets
• Make sure irrigation equipment is properly drained

Taking a little time now can help prevent costly damage later.

Frost date vs. freeze date: What’s the difference? 🍂 You may hear both terms in fall gardening, but they aren’t exactly the same.

Frost: Frost can form when temperatures near the ground drop enough for moisture to freeze on surfaces, even if the official air temperature forecast is above freezing.

Freeze: A freeze refers to air temperatures reaching 32°F or lower.

Why does it matter? Knowing the difference can help you make better decisions about plants, watering and winter preparation.

As fall temperatures start dropping, pay attention to more than just the calendar. Your landscape will tell you when it’s time to start transitioning, too.
