Another massive tax break just dropped. And once again โ physicians are excluded. ๐จ๐
Under IRC ยง225, workers receiving qualified overtime can deduct up to $12,500 โ or $25,000 if married filing jointly โ from 2025 through 2028.
Here's why physicians get nothing:
Strike 1: The overtime must be REQUIRED under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Not just extra shifts your employer voluntarily pays you more for.
Strike 2: Most physicians are exempt employees under federal labor law โ meaning your extra pay doesn't qualify as FLSA-required overtime.
Strike 3: Even if you somehow qualified โ the deduction phases out at $150K for single filers. A single physician earning $300K? Way past the threshold. Benefit: zero.
Tax headlines sound massive. The fine print tells a different story.
