Let’s not forget … It Has Always Been About the Horse🐎💕

At the end of the day, it has always been about the horse.

Not the ribbons.
Not the scores.
Not the applause, the recognition, or the comparison to someone else.

The horse.

Because competition means very little if, somewhere along the way, we forget the one who carried us there.

Learn to speak their language before asking them to speak ours. Listen to the quiet things—the hesitation, the tension, the softened eye, the breath they hold. Don’t force them into our ways simply because they don’t understand the world the way we do. Meet them where they are. Earn their trust. Teach them with patience. Give them a reason to believe that when they put their feet beneath us, we will take care of them.

Remember everything your horse has allowed you to do.

The miles they’ve carried you.
The places they’ve taken you.
The mistakes they’ve forgiven.
The moments they’ve made possible.
The confidence they’ve given you.
The days when they were the one thing that made everything else disappear.

There is a bond there that no ribbon can measure.

And that bond is the part that matters.

Don’t become so distracted by winning that you forget who you’re supposed to be winning with. Don’t sacrifice their trust for a faster time, a better score, or someone else’s approval. And don’t let the noise of this world become louder than the quiet conversation between you and your horse.

Because someday, the competition will be over.

The ribbons will fade.
The scores will be forgotten.
The spectators will go home.

But your horse will remember how you made them feel.

So protect the bond.
Choose the horse.
Listen more than you speak.
Learn their language.
And never let your horse down chasing something that was never more important than them.

Because it was never really about the ribbon.

It has always been about the horse.

There’s a quiet wisdom in older, well-seasoned horses that can’t be taught—only earned through miles, seasons, and time.

They don’t rush the day. They don’t waste motion. They’ve felt the confusion of youth and traded it for something steadier: understanding. A flick of an ear, a shift of weight, the smallest cue from a rider—they notice it all, and they answer with calm certainty.

They’ve carried beginners who didn’t yet know how to ask, and carried seasoned riders who finally learned to listen. They’ve weathered storms, both in the sky and in life, and come out softer where it matters, stronger where it counts.
