Oregon senators, Merkley and Wyden introduced the Homeownership Promise Act today which purposes a 5 to 1 federal $ match for Frist Time Homeowner’s savings (up to $50K) for down payment on a purchase. I hate to be glass-half-empty here, but I really don’t see this going anywhere as it stands but it is great to see some effort in this direction.
It’s only a proposal at this time and not an actual program available to would be buyers (the bill would have to pass House & Senate and then receive presidential approval before it could become law which is a long shot currently) but I bring it up just because it does show some intent and the more law makers that try to help housing right now, the better. The draft bill is a hint at where Democrats might be moving if they regain control of Congress after the midterms.
