*Early Season Update
With the 2017 spring season about a month in, there are a few things that are at hand. The first of which is that we had 2 new players join the league. They are Jake and Zach Braun. They are Brothers. Both are skilled athletes that had played baseball at Bemidji State University. Their abilities will only add to an already deeply talented league. Currently they are the only rookies in the league. Which means as long they both qualify with enough at bats, it will be a brother vs. brother battle for rookie of the year. The sibling rivalry will sure be fun to watch.
There has been one player that is an early season standout and it is last season’s rookie of the year, Jacob “Snuffaluffagus” Snuggerud. His playing ability has steadily increased almost every week. Snuggerud has a Hockey background and is arguably the most athletic player in the league. However, he was a little green in Baseball and Wiffle related sports. But the more he plays, the more of an elite ball player he becomes. Through the first 11 games his record is 10-1. If he counties his winning ways, Snuggerud could win his first MVP award and most improved player as well.
There is one more event worth mentioning and this one is Historical. On March 1st, Gavin “Grampa” Reed caught and suppressed Ryan Zubke’s all-time triples record. At the beginning of Wednesday night’s games, Reed was only one behind tying the record. The tying triple occurred in the second of the three games played that night. The record breaker came in his second to last at bat of the night. The pitch, thrown by Isaiah Silvis, was a 1-0 fastball on the outer half of the plate. The left handed Reed went with the pitch and drove it to left center. The ball short hopped the fence and looked as it was going to be simple a stand up double. However, wiffle balls have a tendency to have a mind of their own when thrown. The throw back in by outfielder James Howell, sailed a little bit and Reed achieved the record breaking 44th career triple.
He then sarcastically tipped his cap to the nonexistent crowd.
After the inning was over the former record older Ryan Zubke, humbly congratulated Reed on his achievement. However Reed’s record is far from safe. Later in that game, Zubke almost tide the record, but that evolved into a homerun. The battle for the record will continue all season long and so for the title to be the first player to reach 50 triples.
We caught up with Reed after the game. His comedic side was on point as he thanked God for his blinding speed (He is one of the slowest players in the league.). Then he wished his mother a happy birthday and went on his way. With this much excitement already at hand so early into the season, one can only imagine what the rest of the season will bring….

WBL 2017 SPRING SEASON PREVIEW!!!!!!!

With the 2017 Spring Season still in its infancy, there are a few notable milestones that are on the horizon. Ryan “I work at a Bank” Zubke, the founder of the league, and most experienced player, is currently at 911 career hits and only 89 short of 1000. Because of his plethora of seasons Zubke as played, he is 404 hits ahead of the second plays player, which is Gavin Reed at 533.
However, there are a few of Zubke’s career statistical records that are endangered of being surpassed, even though he has nearly over 500 at bats more than the next player. The young power hitter Tommy Vohnoutka, at 220 Homeruns, is only 29 behind Zubke. Vohnoutka career homerun to at bat ratio is at 3.82. Zubke currently Homers every 7.65 at bats. So this could happen this season, however Vohnoutka was limited to only 24 homeruns last season because of other school and financial obligations that limited his playing time. It will be interesting to watch wall will happen in the homerun chase this season.
A second of Zubke’s career records that is endangered is in triple category. Gavin “Grandpa” Reed at 38 triples, is only 3 behind Zubke for the record. Last season Grandpa set a record for most triples in a single season (21). Other than divine intervention, the record is guaranteed to fall and soon.
There are a few other Stastisticle milestones that are worth mentioning. Chris Shepard Adam Becker, Jacob “Jac-O-Bee” Israel, and Adam “I like music” Hendrick, will most likely reach the 50 homerun Club. Ryan “Old Hag” Hagerty is only 1 double shy of becoming only the 5th player the hit 50 doubles. These are not all of the milestones that can be reached or broken this season, but some of the more notable marks. All in all, it will be a great season to watch unfold.
