Borrowers barely felt interest rates budge after the Fed's first rate cut back in September. Many economists and Fed watchers expect the central bank to lower short term interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point Thursday — the second rate cut in what's projected to be a string of rate reductions in the next year or so.

The appraisal ghost will haunt you, with values that surprise,
While the underwriter’s shadow lurks, with ever-watchful eyes.
The closing costs are creeping, like zombies in the night,
And just when you think it’s over, they give you one more fright.

But fear not, brave homebuyer, for there’s light at the end,
A cozy home awaits you, where your mortgage woes will mend.
So face those spooky specters, with courage and a grin,
