Okay, last post about inflation! So many people I’ve met with have a huge hole in their financial plan, and that’s because they are not realistic when it comes to inflation!! Some people only model out a 1-1.5% inflation rate (proven way wrong in the past 6 months) and don’t put any alternate scenario’s into their plans for other possibilities! What happens if we see an extended period of high inflation (3-5 years)? What do you do then, just apologize to your client and say you’ll try better next time? Hopefully not!

If you’re not planning for inflation, you’re not planning at all.

There are so many different organizations and entities trying to forecast out inflation to predict what it will be over the next 12-24 months. The IMF is saying 5.9% for the rest of 2022 and the U.S. Fed is saying 2.6%. That’s a big difference!

What do you think is going to happen the rest of this year?

Most people have heard of inflation spiking, but did you know that there is more than one type of inflation? Inflation can be on the Supply side or “Cost-Push inflation”, or it can be on the Demand side in “Demand-Pull inflation”.

Cost-Push mainly occurs when production costs (materials, wages) increase or supply declines due to higher costs. These higher costs pass on to consumers through higher prices.

Demand-Pull occurs when consumer demand surges which declines supply lines and rises prices… People are willing to (and can) pay more, so they do!

You might be able to guess, but right now we are experiencing a little bit of both types of inflation which is different than other periods in the past 50 years, where rising oil and gas prices led to only Cost-Push.

Inflation is a hot topic these past few months. Looking back it can really put in perspective when we have seen inflatio...

Inflation is a hot topic these past few months. Looking back it can really put in perspective when we have seen inflation levels near what we are going through currently, and potentially what we might see going forward. Lets just hope we don’t see the 21st century version of the 1970s!
