This happy guy was our founder, Don Bragg. He started USIAS 28 years ago. A veteran auditor and audit manager, Don was inspired by the possibilities that developing technology offered
to the industry. He became one of the first to provide telephone and internet audits at a time when physical audits were still the norm.

Even if you don't have employees, you may still need to complete an insurance premium audit for the following reasons:

1. Policy Requirements: Insurance policies, especially general liability and workers' compensation, often require annual audits to verify the actual exposure compared to the estimated figures used when the policy was issued.
2. Verification of Zero Payroll: The audit formally confirms that you do not have employees.
3. Subcontractors or Independent Contractors: The audit will also check for subcontractors or independent contractors.
4. Business Continuity Confirmation: The audit verifies that your business is still operating in the same way as when the policy was issued and that your risk exposure hasn't changed.
5. Insurance regulations: State regulations often require the insurance company to collect the information, which is used for ratemaking and other statistical purposes by the state.

Bottom line: The audit protects both you and the insurer by ensuring your premium accurately reflects your actual risk—even if that risk is low or unchanged.

Meet one of our Audit Assistants, Salvatrice Nichols. Salvatrice may have started at USIAS just a little over a year ago, but she has quickly learned how to complete some of our most difficult tasks. She asks insightful questions and really strives to understand the whole process. She is proficient at handling the oldest audits in our inventory because she is very detail-oriented and knowledgeable about the procedures. This allows her to ensure that all necessary steps have been taken before preparing the audit to be returned to the carrier.

We really appreciate that Salvatrice is patient, kind, and willing to help her coworkers. She has great communication skills and always has a pleasant attitude. We can ask her to do anything and know that it will be done quickly and correctly.

When Salvatrice isn't working for USIAS, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She loves outdoor activities like camping and hiking, but she is most at home in her kitchen, baking and cooking with her daughters. She also loves crafting, crocheting, and sewing. Salvatrice’s favorite times of the year are spring and fall. Any place that offers the colors of each of those seasons would be her ideal place to live.
