Credit Union Youth Month continues with today's tip for teens: Be smart about "buy now, pay later" spending!

Buy now, pay later options are installment payment solutions that divide the total of a purchase into smaller equal payments across several weeks. While these options can be helpful for fitting a higher-priced, can't-wait purchase into a fixed budget, they still add up. Be careful to stick to your budget, maintain your savings goal, and account for other expenses before hitting submit on that order. Having multiple buy now, pay later installments can lead to a lot of money coming out during a budget period. Shop smart and stick to your budget!

Today's tip: Don't save card information to websites!

Besides making purchases a little *too* easy (slow spending is smart spending), saving card information on unsafe websites can put your money and your personal information at risk to fraud and scam attempts. Shop smart - ask your parent or trusted adult to verify if a site seems legit. If the price seems too good to be true, it might be a scam. If the site IS legit, opt out of saving card information for a safer experience.

Today's tip: watch your spending while gaming or on in-app purchases!

Gaming platforms have tons of micro-transactions, charging real money for in-game currency to upgrade your gamingexperience. Before you go charging your debit card, have a real look at your budget. You want to have a clear savings goal, and account for all the other spending in your life, before you can evaluate what's left for in-game spending. Set a limit and stick to it!

It's Credit Union Youth Month and we are here with saving and spending tips to share with the teens in your life.

Today's tip - skip that free trial!

Subscription platforms love to hook you with a free trial, in the hopes that you'll be so impressed with the services provided that you'll choose to stay and pay. The other thing they bank on is that you'll forget to cancel that free trial in time and end up paying for the service. Either skip that free trial all together, or set a calendar reminder to cancel the service, unless your budget really supports the cost. All those subscription service charges can really add up, so make sure you're capturing them all on your budget to make sure you're still hitting your savings goals!

Pie it Forward = Success!

Jalynn, our Member Experience Operations Specialist, teamed up with fellow HHCU Team Members to launch a whipped-cream-filled internal fundraiser supporting Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services. Team Members donated for the chance to see coworkers get pied in the face.

Together, we raised $3,650 to support families in our Lawrence County community. Now that’s what we call making a mess for a mission! 🥧💛
