Here's what happened: FICO now allows lenders to buy credit scores directly from them, bypassing Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax entirely. That move could cut credit reporting fees by up to 50%, giving lenders more pricing flexibility and potentially cheaper loans for borrowers down the line.

The market reacted immediately. FICO's stock jumped 20%. The credit bureaus dropped nearly 10%.
