Don’t Let a Romance Scam Break Your Heart or Your Bank Account❤️

Romance scammers often create fake online identities and relationships to gain your trust. They may spend weeks or even months building an emotional connection before asking for money, gift cards, account information, or financial assistance.

🚩 Watch for these warning signs:

They quickly express strong feelings or talk about a future together.

They always have an excuse for why they can’t meet in person or video chat.

They claim to have an emergency and urgently need money.

They ask you to send money, purchase gift cards, transfer funds, or provide banking information.

They pressure you to keep the relationship or financial requests a secret.

Never send money or share personal or financial information with someone you have only met online.

If something doesn’t feel right, stop communicating and talk with someone you trust. When it comes to romance scams, protecting your heart also means protecting your finances.

Stay Safe Online: Protect Yourself from Cybercrime

Cybercriminals are becoming more sophisticated, but a few simple steps can help keep your personal information secure.

• Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) whenever available.
• Be cautious of emails, text messages, or phone calls asking for personal or financial information.
• Keep your devices and apps updated with the latest security patches.

The Cottonport Bank has always been committed to the communities we serve. When the recent flooding devastated parts of Avoyelles Parish, our hearts went out to those who were affected. In response, the bank donated funds directly to flood victims. Those funds were supplemented by generous donations from individuals who were equally moved by the hardship. We are sincerely grateful for their compassion and support.

Together, more than $40,000 was distributed to homeowners affected by the flooding on a first-come, first-served basis. Unfortunately, the need far exceeded the funds available, and we received many more applications than we were able to fulfill.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort. We believe these donations provided meaningful assistance during an incredibly difficult time. As we presented the checks, many recipients asked us to pass along their sincere gratitude to everyone whose generosity made this possible.

In the days immediately following the disaster, The Cottonport Bank also helped provide meals to residents in the Plaucheville, Moreauville, and Simmesport communities. Several hundred meals were prepared and distributed with the help of dedicated volunteers, including many who were not bank employees. We are deeply thankful to everyone who gave their time and effort to serve others during this challenging time.

The Cottonport Bank continues to look for opportunities to support our neighbors as the recovery continues. We are honored to play a small part in helping the community we love and proudly call home.

The recent flooding has impacted many families across Avoyelles Parish, leaving them with unexpected loss and hardship as they work to recover.

To help our neighbors rebuild, The Cottonport Bank has established the Avoyelles Flood Relief Fund and will be contributing to the account. Every dollar donated will go directly toward assisting local residents affected by the 2026 flood.

If you would like to support local families during this difficult time, donations can be made at any Cottonport Bank branch or mailed to the bank for deposit into the relief fund.
