Jenny Maddox from Bath Savings and Chad Carleton from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office are teaming up to help fight fraud. One of the scams we're seeing often is the Grandparent Scam. In this scenario, the criminal impersonates a grandchild or loved one and claims there is an emergency that requires funds (bail, airfare, etc.) immediately. If you receive a call, text, or email like this, pause, take a breath, and reach out to someone you trust (law enforcement, a loved one, or your bank).
