Workers Compensation, Paid Family Leave and Disability policies are required in NYS IF you are bartering with or employing a person on your farm.
You can hire and 1099 to avoid issues, BUT be sure your paperwork is in order.
Many of you are flying under the radar and don't recognize the danger.
I was recently contacted by a farm owner that is being fined $28,000 by the WC board. They are being fined for every day they have operated their business without WC .
if your under the table employee is injured and needs medial attention, this is a prime opportunity for the WC board to register that you are operating outside of the guidelines.
