Today I had the privilege of sponsoring a hole at the Happy Hearts Working golf tournament, and what an incredible day it was! ⛳️

This organization holds a special place in my heart. Growing up, I was extremely close with my Grandma Dorothy. She had a daughter, my aunt, with severe intellectual disabilities. Watching the love, patience, and care my grandma poured into her gave me a deep appreciation for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

That’s one of the reasons I was so moved by the mission of Happy Hearts Working. They create meaningful opportunities for their associates by helping them build life skills, find employment and volunteer opportunities, develop friendships, and work toward greater independence in a supportive, faith-centered community. It’s a mission that gives people purpose, belonging, and the chance to thrive.

The tournament itself was so much fun, but even more importantly, it was inspiring to see so many people come together to support such an amazing organization. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to be a small part of it, and I can’t wait to support Happy Hearts Working again in the future.

🌷🌻🌺 Girls day! 🌺🌻🌷

This morning, my mom, daughter, and I enjoyed the Basehor Community Volunteers Garden Tour. As one of the sponsor of this wonderful event, I had a great time seeing all of the beautiful gardens and gathering lots of inspiration along the way.

I may have come home with more ideas for my yard than I know what to do with! 🌿🌷

We finished the morning with lunch at Flashbacks in their new location, which was the perfect way to wrap up a fun day together. As always, the food was delicious!

🎒❤️ Operation Backpack Needs Your Help! ❤️🎒

Many children in the community rely on school meals during the week, but weekends can be a different story. That’s where BLAS Operation Backpack comes in.

This amazing program helps provide bags of food to children facing food insecurity so they have meals and snacks to get them through the weekend. The campaign runs from 6/1 through 8/1.

I’m proud to support this important effort and the difference it makes for local families. If you’re looking for a way to give back, consider supporting Operation Backpack and helping ensure no child has to worry about where their next meal will come from.

The 2025-2026 school year is over and BLAS is starting to plan for 2026-2027. Project Operation Backpack sends home bags of food at the end of the school week for students who are food insecure in our Basehor Linwood School District.

In 2024-2025 we provided 46 food bags each week for students. In 2025-2026 we had 68 students who needed food bags weekly. So for the 2026-2027 we are planning for 80 students who will need bags of food each week.

It costs about $352 a year, or $44 a month, or $11 a week for each student’s bag of food. Can you help a child in our community eat on the weekends? This program feeds students during the school year from September through May. Children are identified by the schools and parents give permission for their child to bring home food bags. BLAS will provide the bags of food weekly to the schools.
