In October of 2023, I entered the insurance industry knowing I had a lot to learn.
As I met agents who had built successful careers, I found myself asking the same question over and over:
"If I really want to take a deep dive and learn this industry, where do I go?"
The answer was almost always the same.
"Go earn your CIC."
From that point on, becoming a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) became one of my goals.
Over the past several months, that goal meant sitting through 80 hours of classroom instruction covering everything from personal and commercial insurance to agency management and risk management. It also meant completing 10 hours of essay exams that challenged me to apply what I had learned—not just memorize it.
I'll admit, there were times when it felt a little overwhelming. But growth usually happens when you're willing to be challenged.
Today, I'm proud to say I've officially earned my CIC designation.
This accomplishment isn't about adding three letters after my name. It's about becoming a better advisor for the families, businesses, and organizations who trust me to help protect what matters most.
I'm incredibly thankful to the mentors who pointed me in this direction, my team at LaRue-Carey Insurance Group for their support, and every client who has trusted me along the way.
The insurance industry is always evolving, and I believe learning should never stop. This is one milestone I'm proud of, but it's certainly not the last.
