MIDLAND INSURANCE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT OF THE WEEK - NOLAN SALSER!!

Congratulations, Nolan!! Wow! What a cool dude! I’m so glad I got to spend some time at my office this week with Nolan. He’s just a tremendous young man with a great attitude and personality! Nolan is 11 years old and is in the 6th grade at Milton Middle School where he is an amazing student, friend, and athlete. He has a 4.0 GPA and told me he’s never made anything below an A in any class since he started school! 😮😮 Nolan came to MMS from Nichols Elementary. He loves his time at Nichols and said he misses fun times like carnival day and field day but misses Mrs. Kinder more than anything else.

Nolan has really adjusted well to the middle school life. He said he really likes the freedom of middle school and being able to switch rooms and have different teachers and opportunities and make new friends and TWO lunch lines. 🤣 Nolan is participating in Beta Club where he is doing Songfest and US History. His best class at MMS is math and his favorite is gym.

Gym being his favorite class shouldn’t come as a surprise because Nolan is an amazing athlete! This year he is running cross country for the first time and right now usually places in the middle of the pack of the MMS boys team. But he is a member of a very strong team! The MMS boys have several 1st place finishes this year. And Nolan is just getting started with cross country and keeps getting better every week by continuing to set personal records each meet.

Nolan’s main focus is on soccer. He’s been playing since he was 2 1/2 years old and plays for Square One Sports for both middle school club soccer and travel soccer. He’s excited to have an actual MMS team next year! But in the meantime, Nolan is killing it individually playing midfield CDM and CAM and his teams are winning lots of tournaments. Before we know it he’ll be on the field for the Knights! ⚽️

Nolan has two sisters named Arabella, and Chloe and a brother named Aiden. He has two cats named Percy and Ember and two dogs named Lola and Eva. When he has free time he likes to play outside and hanging out with his cats and dogs. He also likes to play video games and hang out with all the boys in his neighborhood. He told me when he gets older he wants to go to college and play soccer and eventually play professional soccer! 💪⚽️ I know he’ll do great at whatever he sets his mind to! Congratulations, Nolan! We’re all very proud of you!

MIDLAND INSURANCE CMHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK - BRAXTON CLARY!!

Congratulations, Braxton!! Wow! What an awesome dude! I had a great time hanging out at my office last week with Braxton! Braxton is 16 years old and is a junior at Cabell Midland High School where he is an awesome student, friend, and worker! He came to Midland through Milton Elementary and Milton Middle School. Braxton makes great grades in school but he’s actually only in the building about half of a regular school day. The first part of his school days involve going out into the community and working in several different locations as part of the school’s work program. After he works all morning he comes back to the school and has lunch and then hitting the books in math, science, and history. Braxton told me that he makes great grades in all of his classes and his favorite part about Midland is hanging out with his friends at school and lunch! I can relate to that! And, I hear that Braxton eats pizza eat day for lunch! 🍕🍕🍕😋😋😋

Braxton is a hard worker! Just look at all the places he goes in the community to help out - Wyngate, Shonet’s, Goodwill, and he even went to work at Help for Animals until he found out he was allergic to cats. 🐈‍⬛ 😬 He sweeps and takes out the trash at Wyngate and folds napkins, wipes off menus, and other things at Shonet’s. He says his favorite place to work is Goodwill where he helps sort things, put color sale tags on items, and puts clothing on and off the hangers. Wow! I need Braxton to come help me out at Midland Insurance! 💪💪💪

Braxton has 2 dogs - Gracie and Stella and 2 outside cats. But those aren’t the only pets Braxton has! He has lots of goats, and cows, and chickens! 😮🐐🐄🐓🐓🐓I hear he likes to watch them and hang out with them but doesn’t care too much to help take care of them. 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️ Well that’s completely understandable because he’s working so hard at his jobs and school during the day. When he has a little free time, Braxton likes to read books, swim in the pool, and play on his phone and watch videos. We’re all super proud of you, Braxton!! Thank you for all you do for our community! Congratulations!!

MIDLAND INSURANCE CMHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK - EMILY MCGUFFIN!!!

Congratulations, Emily!! Wow! What a super sweet girl with an amazing personality!! I’m so glad I got to hang out with her for a few minutes at my office this week. Emily is 16 years old and a junior at CMHS where she is an amazing student, friend, and athlete. Emily has a 4.4+ GPA while taking AP, honors, and dual credit classes while being a Midland cheerleader and also working part time! 😮😮😮 She is also a member of the Distinguished Scholars at CMHS where they do community work, volunteer, and do things around the school like decorate the court yard. Emily says her favorite subject is Spanish and her best subject is math. She says her favorite part about her time at Midland so far has been the relationships she’s developed with a lot of her teachers.

Emily came to Midland from Barboursville Middle School where she was in the orchestra and a member of the Junior National Honor Society. She was a cheerleader in little league but had kind of stopped doing that due to Covid and some other things. But she continued to take tumbling classes and still wanted to cheer. She decided to cheer again her freshman year and was on the jv cheer squad her 9th and 10th grade years. However, this year she made the varsity team, the Game Day team, UCA, and the traditional team! Wow! She came out of cheer retirement in a big way!!! I can’t wait to watch her cheer the next two years at Midland! 📣👧💪❤️

Emily has a 16 year old brother named Kaleb, a 6 year old brother named Luke, and a 3 year old sister named Sadie. She has a dog named Bandit and a cat named Oliver. She attends and is very active in the youth group and nursery at Barboursville Baptist Church and loves going to Camp Cowen. Emily also works about 20 hours a week at Panera Bread and worked around 40 hours a week there during the summer. 😮 When she has free time she likes to sleep, shop, and read. Emily is part of the CMHS Academy of Education currently and plans to go to college and major in elementary education to be an elementary school teacher! She definitely has the perfect loving, caring, and enthusiastic personality for that! I know she’ll be a great teacher! Congratulations, Emily! We’re all so proud of you!

MIDLAND INSURANCE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT OF THE WEEK - LIZA GALLOWAY

Congratulations, Liza!!! Wow! What a super sweet and athletic girl! Liza is 13 years old and in the 8th grade at Barboursville Middle School where she is an amazing student, friend, and athlete! She has a 4.0 GPA, is in the Junior National Honor Society as their reporter, has been student of the month, on the yearbook staff, and a member of the PALS program. Her favorite subject is English and her best subject is math. Liza loves BMS and says her favorite thing about BMS are all the amazing teachers.

This beauty isn’t just brains, she’s a beast of an athlete! She plays volleyball, basketball, softball, runs track. In volleyball she was the jv captain last year at BMS and the varsity captain this year. She’s been playing softball since she was 8 years old and has also played travel ball for the last 3 years. Most importantly, she was a member of the World Champion Midland Insurance Fightin’ Dan Kinder in the Barboursville Little League a couple years ago! 🥎👧💪 Liza plays basketball for BMS where she was MVP of the 6th grade JV county tournament and was also a big part of the BMS girls winning the county championship. She also does travel basketball. And last year she randomly decided to try running track and (among lots of other accomplishments) set the BMS school record for the 100 meter hurdles. 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️ I guess she’s doing ok with track. She plans on participating in all of these sports next year at Midland.

Liza lives with her 16 year old brother Devin, her 2 year old sister Mila, and her 4 year old brother Nolan. She has a bunny named Beau and two dogs named Wilson and Weston. When she has a little bit of free time, Liza likes to hang out with her friends and go to the mall and shop and other things. She told me when she graduates from high school she’d like to attend college and play at least one of her chosen sports and eventually become a NICU nurse! Well I know she’ll be successful at whatever she sets her mind to! Congratulations, Liza! We’re all so proud of you!!
