π It's National Trailer Safety Week and whether you are hauling equipment, a camper, or a boat trailer, here are a few important tips to keep in mind every time you hit the road!
β’ Know your weight limits. Make sure your vehicle is rated to tow the load you are pulling and never exceed the manufacturer's towing capacity.
β’ Check your connections. Before every trip inspect your hitch, safety chains, and wiring to make sure everything is secure and your lights are working properly.
β’ Check your mirrors. Adjust both side mirrors before you leave so you have a clear view of the trailer on both sides. You cannot rely on your rearview mirror when towing.
β’ Give yourself extra stopping distance. A loaded trailer significantly increases your stopping distance so leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle ahead.
β’ Practice backing up. If you are not experienced backing a trailer, take some time to practice in an empty parking lot before you need to do it somewhere stressful.
Stay safe out there and enjoy the ride!
