Ask yourself:

• What expenses would continue if I were no longer here?
• Would my family have enough money to maintain their lifestyle?
• Are my beneficiaries current?
• Is my employer-provided coverage enough?
• Have my family’s needs changed since I purchased my policy?

These aren’t always easy questions, but they are important ones. Over the years, I’ve helped families work through these conversations thoughtfully and practically. This week’s assignment is simple: take a look at your current life insurance coverage.

Life changes—and your policy may need to change with it. I encourage families to review their coverage after major milestones, such as:
• Getting married
• Buying a home
• Having or adopting children
• Changing jobs
• Starting a business
• Paying off or taking on debt
• Experiencing a change in income

It’s also important to review your beneficiaries regularly. An outdated beneficiary designation can create unnecessary complications for the people you’re trying to protect.

After more than two decades in this business, I’ve seen how valuable a policy review can be. Sometimes coverage is still appropriate. Other times, a family’s needs have changed significantly.
