This Women's History Month, GWB Insurance Group is pleased to acknowledge and commemorate the enduring impact of Dr. Gladys West, renowned for her seminal work at the Air Force Space Command. Notably, she was among the select few African Americans hired at the time and trailblazed as only the second African American woman. During her tenure, Dr. West contributed significantly to the development of satellite geodesy models that underpin the Global Positioning System (GPS). Her groundbreaking achievements have been immortalized in the film “Hidden Figures,” which highlights her pivotal role in shaping both Black History and American History. A distinguished graduate of Virginia State University (BS, MS) and proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, we are delighted to honor her legacy, not just today, but every day.

GWB Insurance would like to take the time to acknowledge, appreciate, and celebrate the birth/legacy of a great man, not only in African American history but in all history. Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a strong advocate for peace and nonviolent protest and action. He was a massive component of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. During the 1963 March on Washington, Dr. King delivered one of the most impactful speeches in American history, “I Have a Dream”. This led to him receiving the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. We will forever appreciate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
