Interested in learning how to crochet?
Join Janet Anderson-Story and the beginning crochet 4-part class where you will learn about yarn, hooks, crochet terminology, reading patterns, and practicing stitches. Projects such as a soap holder, granny squares or baby hats will be completed.
Cost: $55 all materials supplied.
Saturdays: September 26, October 11(Sunday), 24, and 31. From 1-3 pm. All meetings are at the Lumberyard Arts Center, 8th and High, Baldwin City. AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT

The Quilting Basics class held at the Lumberyard Arts Center through the Quilt Capital of Kansas is about to wrap up with their final class this weekend. The progress these quilts made over the last few months is amazing! Each class they've learned a new block and technique and now have enough blocks to create a sampler quilt. The variety of fabrics chosen is amazing, making each quilt completely unique despite making the same blocks together. Here's a preview of the blocks they made along the way. Once the tops are together, more pix will be shared. Congratulations to this group of accomplished new quilters!

Quilting and other textile arts classes held through the Quilt Capital of Kansas are co-sponsored by Quilters' Paradise and the Lumberyard Arts Center. The Quilting Basics series is taught by Elizabeth Granberg-Jerome Custom Quilter. The beginning series of six classes will come around again in early 2027.

On April 18, Angie Spielman and Linda Ballinger presented at the Baldwin City Library as part of their History Series, exploring The Underground Railroad Through Quilts. Through patterns, symbolism and storytelling, they shared how quilts played a role in guiding freedom seekers on their journey.
