June is National Dairy Month, and we’re proud to recognize the hardworking dairy farmers who help keep our communities fed and our agricultural economy strong. We’re especially honored to work with Leatherbrook Holsteins, a valued part of Southwest Georgia’s agricultural community. Dairy farming is a year-round commitment that starts long before sunrise and requires dedication every day of the year.
“What stands out about Leatherbrook Holsteins and the Graft family is their commitment to continually improving their operation. Their focus on innovation and sustainability shows how Georgia agriculture can remain productive, responsible, and future-ready for generations to come.” — Brian Wilson, Regional Lending Manager.
Back by popular demand, this June Dairy Month we are showcasing more of our Georgia dairy farmers through a Farmer Monday series. Stay tuned each Monday this month to meet a Georgia dairy farm family.
This week's Farmer Monday spotlight is the Graft Family. Adam Graft grew up in Atlanta, GA but spent his summers on his grandfather's dairy farm in Ohio. Jane (Coble) Graft grew up working on her family's dairy farm in Simpsonville, SC. After receiving his DVM degree from the University of Georgia, Adam moved to California where he practiced veterinary medicine on several local dairies while running his own 300-cow dairy farm. After being introduced to Adam by her sister-in-law, Jane eventually moved to California to keep the books and milk cows at Adam's dairy. Adam and Jane moved back to Georgia in 2005 to begin their own operation. After renting a dairy in Barnesville, GA for a few years, in 2008 the Grafts had the opportunity to move to Americus and purchase their own dairy, Leatherbrook Holsteins. Starting with 300 cows, Adam has expanded the operation by implementing progressive and sustainable practices. Along with operating the farm, Adam also serves as Vice-President of the Georgia Milk Producers Board of Directors, helping shape the future for Georgia’s dairy industry.
